Replacing a New Build Pendant Light fitting with an IKEA Hektar Light - It was a NIGHTMARE

I've been pondering for a while about changing the light fitting in my studio for a while now, and I eventually found one that I felt would look good, and also give me a bit more flexibility with my lighting. After looking through the instructions I feared that the Hektar light fitting might be a bit of a pain to install - and.. well - you'll have to see how it went for yourself!

"Why don't they put wagos in these?" Yes - this should be the way. I have generally taken the approach of replacing the chocolate boxes supplied with previous Ikea lights with wago connections. It has made installing things much easier.

Well done. Too late now, but (in my opinion) for any future fitting use proper plasterboard cavity plugs or spring toggles. The unit didn't look heavy but conventional rawlplugs are only really suitable for single pendant fittings and lightweight shades. Two, long, strong tiewraps (instead of your wire) will allow you to move the fitting closer to the wiring and free up your hands etc.

Ahhh... Forgot to mention.. They aren't standard Rawlplugs.. I forget the name but they squidge up in the cavity to wedge it in tightly when screwed. Cable tie Is a perfect idea. Thank you!

We have just bought this light. We have live, neutral and wire loops. Where do the wire loops go into????

This is the problem.. there’s not really the room for those in the case.. You might need to use some WAGO connectors to keep the loops you have already.
