Thank you, really helpful video. I'm getting increasingly braver at undoing bits on my Land Rover thanks to you. we could all do with two vehicles, one to practice on, one to drive. Thanks again for being the 'practice on' vehicle.

hi Use a concentrated flushing agent .Typically 1--2 cans some has to be dissolved prior , drive for 15mins to get properly circulated and to get well agitated . This will absolutely strip out all corrosion and dirt . Needs to be well flushed and radiator core diss-assembled for internal cleaning. Use a pressure cleaner on overflow bottle . Flush heater core .

More frustrating with A/C!! Great video as usual.

Don’t start the project unless you have o-Rings for the oil cooling lines. Also get a 3/8 hose for capping the oil lines as well.

Great video! Do you happen to know the torque required for the coolant drain plug on the side of the engine?

Great tips there! I am about to do this job on my TDI 300, I am toying with the idea of fitting an alum rad rather than the copper one, would it be worth fitting an alu or just replace it with a copper one?
@trailerfitter26 жыл бұрын
only cost makes the difference. Copper on can be repaired.

Quick one. I removed the red coolant from my system, flushed with water twice. So basically filled the system up twice and run the engine both times. Then refilled with millers blue which is the correct coolant. However my header tank fluid looks brownish colour already. Def no oil in coolant, head gasket is fine. Have I flushed the system enough as to not mix the two??
@trailerfitter29 жыл бұрын
Sam Bam not if you have flushed it properly. Could be rust?
@sambam61999 жыл бұрын
Just dipped the header tank and rinsed into a cup and it is still a very light pink? Old coolant originally came out pink with a few small metal particals. But I did a 50/50 mix, if it was rust surely the coolant would appear murky, where as this was quite clear.

What is the size of the nut on the fan clutch? 36 or 40 MM, perhaps?
@trailerfitter29 жыл бұрын
32mm on the 200tdi and 300tdi engines.

@trailerfitter27 жыл бұрын
Not red. That is for later engines.

Good day , Can you upgrade your radiator like you would a inter cooler, and would it make a change to anything? Thanks
@trailerfitter27 жыл бұрын
Good question. Unless you live in extreme conditions, there is no point having a larger radiator unless you are doing something really specialist with the vehicle. The best efficiency you can get with the engine is to have it and maintain it at running temperature. Cooling system design is already efficient. Aas long as it is kept in good order should there be a reason to change it?

Thanks for the advice, greatly appreciated.

hi I want to flush my discovery 1 300 tdi coolant system through and replace all coolant. what's the best way to do this please ? through the thermostat? is it just a case of flushing through until all comes out clean. refilling (how much coolant? which coolant?) then running with the heaters on and cap off expansion tank until bubbles stop... squeezing hoses to remove all air? thanks Jesse
@trailerfitter27 жыл бұрын
Didn't i say all of that in the video?

hello. I got a 300tdi in a d1. had head off and I'm starting to get heat issues intermiddently. the was a composite gasket on It and when it was scraped off some may of fell in. you think that this would get rid of it?
@trailerfitter27 жыл бұрын
sorry not quite understand what you have written? Gasket fell in where?
@trailerfitter27 жыл бұрын
have you checked the head condition? kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYXMZ3Vti7N4bbc

in to the cooling system when I had the head off
@seeweed707 жыл бұрын
and yeah. it was serviceable. it first started when I bounced over some crap when I went bush. ive replaced the thermostat and its still on and off. so that's why I reckon its a foregn body in the system
@trailerfitter27 жыл бұрын
It is a possibility that something could be blocking a water gallery. I could' hazard a guess as to where it would be blocking but the narrowest parts are where the head gasket is Gasket restricts some of the flow to the head.arounf the cylinders.
