Eric I consider you to be a good friend and I really like these videos because your life and upbringing is so entirely different from my own. I was a scientist - about as white collar as it gets since I wore a clean room bunny suit for a good portion of the day, worked in a class 1 semiconductor clean room (1 submicron particle per cubic foot of air) with white walls and no windows at a constant 70F and exactly 50% relative humidity (because that's what Photoresist likes). I'm a city kid from Pittsburgh who never even saw a cow until he was 21 years old, and I don't think I ever saw a tractor until I took a trip on the PA turnpike where I saw a farmer plowing a field while going down the Turnpike at 80 mph on my way to Washington DC. Asphalt and concrete was what I walked on (or well manicured grass of course when I was golfing at the club) and corn was something that came from Kroger's. When I visited you it was like I was an Apollo astronaut and had gone to the Moon. I really enjoyed my stay because it was so foreign to me. I really appreciated your way of life, although it wouldn't work for me as I don't posses the skills I'd need to survive in "the wilderness." Anyway, variety is the spice of life and thanks for sharing this with us city folks.

He was telling me how a big pain in the rear in to replace a tire in a tractor and the cost as well. This happened sometime last year. I love watching a big tyre guy work, especially when they know what they are doing . Was at a tyre company years ago waiting to have delivery tyres changed to road tires on a 8 legger.The other guy I was with kept chirping in how easy the guy made it look and he could do it faster . Tyre fitter got pissed and offered him a go . The big mouth couldn't even lift the heel/breaker bar . We got back to our depot and it only seemed polite to accidently tell the other guys what a fool he made of himself. For showing us up the gaffer made him torque every truck wheel in the car park . I Seem to remember he managed 3 then keeled over with exhaustion He learnt the hard way being a big truck tyre fitter is a trade in its self
@gerardbonus5354
@gerardbonus5354 7 жыл бұрын
I did 14 years as a tyre fitter, several on the farm and 24hr service, I had to invent that method of fitting as it was impossible for a wee lad like myself at the time to lift the wheels with the weights. My breaker was wood or steel wedges and a sledge hammer :) I'd love to have had one of those crushers, I have broken both beads, but I do see hois point as the whole thing moves, I had a little gripper that just wedged in and held the tyre. Back in my day we were buying tractors for the cost of today's tyres :)

Thank you and glad you made the video for the city dweller !!!!! Next time I drive through the country and see a farmer on his tractor - I'll blow my horn and give him a thumbs up !!!! Last year my dad popped the tube on his international 674, his mud chains came loose and wrapped around the axle and pinched the tube. Luckily for him it wasn't that bad to fix it. I think with service call it was under 300 dollars.

Most people don't realize just how many tractor owners there are. They're infinity useful on even the smallest plot of land. And they're designed to be completely rebuilt with simple tools out in the middle of a field somewhere. The only tool you need add to your collection is a high torque impact gun (800ft lb or better), else you give yourself a hernia. Ask me how I know. And a diesel will sit for years and still start on the first crank. If you look, there are many great deals out there, and implements are cheap as well. Several years ago I picked up a 63 MF35 diesel for $3k. It came with a 5' Bush hog, a 8" post hole digger, a 5' Box scrape, a Big 2 disc plow, a 4 axle disc, a 4 prong cultivator, and a 6' crane arm. Then a couple years back my uncle died, and I bought his 74 MF135 Diesel for $4k.

Extra safety on the britches, suspenders and a belt! I know the feeling used to work on heavy equipment, down on your knees or back then get up and go back to the truck for a tool repeat. need all the help you can get keeping your pants up.
