I’ve seen a hundred videos about this and not a single guy has said how long it takes to set before you rake it. Not in seconds, minutes, or years... why can’t anyone even give a ballpark? Does it take between 5 and 50 ?

Knowledge cost money!!!!!! 😁 but I've heard stick your fingerprint and if it doesnt get moisture is good for raking, and another clue for jointing is if you finger prints on the joint without sinking it in is goog to go jointing, your welcome.

Uh it would help if I knew what the mud consisted of so that I could recreate the process. Could you please give your recipe for mud? Or if you buy it at the store please explain what I need to look for unless it’s actually called mud. I just don’t want to spend a lot of money but I have two bricks that came off my patio steps. Any help is appreciated.

Building sand and cement. Facing brickwork normally 4 parts sand to 1 part cement.

Sloppy as fuck, otherwise good. If you have the mud on your trowel about as thick as the mortar joint, and other side of your trowel is clean, you will make way less of a mess.

Definitely not something I could do for a living. Something about the sound of trowels scraping mud onto bricks makes all the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
