Just made this modification to my switch today, sound level decreased tremendously but the log is full with fan errors, i've seen another post who suggests connecting the white wire to ground i'll give it a shot. Thank you!

Thanks for this - just replaced the fan in my 1910 and it's sooo much quieter - used a NF-A4x20, as the NF-A4x10 wasn't readily available, and it worked just fine.

I'm happy it worked out good for you. Recently did this exact same mod (Noctua + V1910) and was a bit disappointed. Quieter, yes, but a far cry from silence.

Quiet, but not silent. Replaced the fan as this will go in my workspace/lab which is right next to my family room. Even with this fan in, it's as loud as mid tower computers from the late 90s. Im still around 48-50 dB measuring from the spot in this video.

Very nice DIY-video! The Noctua-fans are really awesome, extremely silent and Long life. Why didn´t you use the NF-A4x20 5V instead of the NF-A4x10? Higher static pressure and better air throughput

First thanks for video! Tried out this "hack" myself on the same HP v1910-16 switch using NF-A4X20 fan. I can confirm switch works. It is quieter yes, but i would say 25% less noise. So you will still hear fan noise in quiet room. I am also getting fan fault errors in logs..(i connected the fan same way as in the video). So it is kind a improvement yes, but switch without fan is still better choice.

Strange... I have the same (almost) switch, but it's a 3com... and my delta fan in there is 12V and NOT 5V... did they change the fan voltage when they went from 3com to HP or yours was changed at some point (or mine?). Anyone has a 3Com Baseline Switch 2952-SFP Plus by any chance to check?

Can you be so kind to link to the Noctua fan that you used, or just let me know the model number please. Thanks :)

Nice tutorial. Thank you. How long did it take to look up the equivalent fan size, power & cfm with a lower noise level?

PS: Der Switch mit 48 Ports V1910-G48 verwendet 12V Lüfter. PS: The 48-port switch V1910-G48 uses 12V fans.

I have the hp v1910-24g-poe 365W version, do you know if that switch uses 5 or 12V fans? It seems to be 3 fans in that also.. I have an annoying fan bearing noise in the switch that I want to resolve.. Of course with quiet fans.. The PWM version of the Noctua fans seems to have 4 pins, and I guess they will be plug and play, and I guess won´t create a fan error in the log?

why when guys replace fans on youtube no matter what fan it is they dont clean the dust out of the pc case or here switch case they just leave the dust build up in there and expect good performance - thats nonsese all over youtube...

While I do agree, and I too clean the dust out of anything I open. I didn't click on a video called "Cleaning dust out of a HP V1910". Thank you for taking the time to make this video. And thank you for making it clear, concise, and to the point!

Thanks. This helped me out. One thing i noticed is that the noctua fans dont get enough power to make it a full rotation. Wich results in a fan that doesnt spin. You need to manually rotate the fan so the fan blows the hot air out. Anyone have the same issue?

@Scott Luther This happened to me, I saw another guy with the same issue and it is still indeed related to voltage, the video says 5V, but if you got the FLX like I did, that one is only 12V version.

I presume this model switch doesn't give the warning fan light like the 2*** series do..

My HP ProCurve 3500yl-48g-PoE switch has the fan light on now after modding the fans. It won't affect anything though right??

I have done this on mine, as far as I am aware it doesn't affect how the switch works!
