Hello and welcome back to Verde Beach! The immortal, 120+ year old city planner is not infallible. In the previous episode, I completely reconfigured the metro/subway lines without incorporating any of the new assets from the recently released Train Stations Content Creator Pack. To make things worse, I forced transit riders to haul their luggage blocks, babies, suitcases, and dogs blocks just to make a transfer between routes. No more! In this "B" episode, we'll correct some of the problems from the previous build and incorporate community feedback to make the transit system really shine!

I think Biffa has pulled more Mulligans and more eminent domain for one roundabout than CPP has for all of Verde Beach. Phil really wants to make it as real as possible, but the game has limitations. You usually don't have to use eminent domain to pave a road, but that's the world Verde Beach lives in. Viva King Mayor Mulligan.

It might have been unreasonable, but then again, a city would have designed it that way from the get-go and doesn't need to wait for architects to release DLCs to update their metro designs. You can probably get traffic flow up a bit higher by adding exits to the highway from your industry at key locations, and the cargo station, with some traffic management around the direction of flow in the industry too.

I feel like the second airport metro line should service the rear "east-west" corridor instead of being an express line for Sunset. The monorail is already serving Sunset as an express line. This would alleviate pressure from the airport to the rear "east-west" lines via "north-south" lines.

Maybe worth a C episode? ;) your new metro hub is going to run into the issues as your cargo lines used to, having lots of tracks cross over without a lot of space. Also the airport express should probably get a dedicated rail, it has a lot of traffic to get to the hub. Otherwise I love it!

@CityPlannerPlays 41:15 On the metro station next to the zoo, I think that little plaza would be a prime place for 2 things: 1) Meeting zone for people who are going to the zoo with friends/date during the day; 2) Hiding spot for robbers at night, since a direct view is difficult due to the walls on the back and sides, and is very very dark. So... a pair of street lamps would be good... a small monument or fountain with color lighting would make it a more interesting place though... a great opportunity for detailing Phil.

Wouldn't it make more sense to have the express line stop directly at the train station? As to the Airport-Sunset line, I would replace it two separate lines that meet at the Metro Plaza (giving the ability for people to change and go wherever they want): one going towards the airport and one going in the opposite direction towards the zoo (this would probably also help alleviate the stress that was present on the previous line).

I understand why one would use the same tracks for the express line that is already being used by the non-express line, but what's the point of a line being "express" if it has to wait for the non-express metros?

Making it express saves time by the express trains themselves not stopping to load/unload, and by bypassing some of the higher-traffic stations like he showed in this video. The vehicle doesn't travel any faster, and it does still have to stop SOMETIMES, but overall quite a bit faster.

Better a four-track subway tunnel with shared platforms for all trains at the express and local stops and outside platforms for local trains only at the local stops. This and use of three-track lines for local and directional rush hour express trains are how New York City has handled it for over a century, and they work.

@@nikolaisoerensen he put in tracks for the express trains to bypass the platforms. They don't physically go faster than the other trains, so that is all that's necessary.

@@thelonelyrogue3727 at the end you can see bumper to bumper traffic in the subway tunnels after the express line meets up again with the sunset line. It definitely needs its own dedicated track.

Glad you're doing this side B video, good fixes! One thing is that the metro trains can sometimes bunch up when multiple lines share the same tunnel/tracks, like your main airport line and the airport shuttle line. I've had HUGE back ups when I do that, so I try to have each line have it's own tracks except in station transfers.

I know you're not using it, but this kind of line rearrangement is why I love the the Metro Overhaul Mod. Even though many of its features have been incorporated into the base game, one unique thing it still allows you to do is fully customize the layout of underground stations, from platform length, rotation, angle, depth, offset, additional platforms, remove platforms, and so on. While the new open trench stations are beautiful, there is something incredibly satisfying about making a custom metro interchange to perfectly suit your city and its transit network. And the functional train depots are a nice visual element too, and can often turn an awkward gap in your city into something vitally useful.

I cannot recall... were there two monorail lines before and he lost one with all the stop movement? I think it would have been a good check to count the monorail stations and look at the view to ensure the expected number are all there. I had to do it in my city recently when two loops had missing numbers... and found the lines were not connected, which contributed to weirdness.

Nice :) That metro plaza looks really good at the place where it's at, and the monorail fits in really well there as well. Now for some suggestions: You might consider extending the white line one extra station, that way, you can get from the white line directly to the trams, monorail and the Sunset line, without first having to transfer to the Express line. Maybe extend the Party line to the airport as well, through a separate tube? That might relieve the Sunset line a bit, as then there is no need to crossover via the Government line at the Metro plaza, and it also offers a direct connection to another train station, if I'm not mistaken. Also did you get the metro & buslines into that bus-hub? Not sure, but I don't think I saw that line to the old town light up at all.

39:00 in the space next to the metro hub, you could add another street parallel to the road to be used as a place busses can stop. This will mean that the buses do not need to stop on sunset boulevard which will also help reduce traffic congestion.

This was a really satisfying episode... the way that gargantuan uber hub turned out is ~chefskiss~ Even the way the sunken station is offset turned out ideal with its staircases lining up with the crossings and the monorail. 31:45 I find that doing something similar with underground metro stations and bypasses is the best way to get high quality service through most of the network with a big hub or three where you have spaghetti happening. The new metro stations look alright - some really good - but their physical footprint usually doesn't justify replacing underground metro. I was aghast at the level of eminent domain in the In Da Club District - that was like 20% of the zoned area!

My only real suggestion would be that you make the orange line stop at your new sunken metro mega-hub at Central Station. This wouldn't have any real advantages over where it currently stops at the main central station, but it would be more aesthetically pleasing to see the hub being really busy with metro traffic!

I must say, I like when you go mad with power :D Maybe you should do that more often ^-^ The new metro system looks really awesome and there are so many passengers using it! Also, the city tour at the end, with all the different angles of the new stations was great! I kinda would love to see a metro map of Verde Beach, kinda like those London or NY (or any other large city) style maps, I think that would look really epic :) A couple of thoughts and suggestions regarding Central Station: - at around 37:25 you are contemplating pros and cons to locate the MagLev station directly in front of the train station, because people are crossing the road.. I see that space is very very tight, but maybe a pedestrian bridge connecting the train station, the metro station and the maglev station all together would be very useful there. But I guess that would necessitate some emminent domain being used on one or two of those nice little skyscrapers... :D Myrtle would be so happy. - you connected a few of the platforms of that huge metro station to "the main corridor", if you know what I mean, but since that main corridor already has multiple lines on it with many many trains, maybe it would be worth considering just having a second metro tunnel right beside it. I think that would prevent some congestion (at least in one of my cities I had it happen that there were just too many lines passing through one spot, so I had to separate the actual tunnels in order to fix it). I think a major part of your yellow and orange line problem is that a huge portion of your airport (tourist) traffic is heading to the stadium district and they have no direct lines there. If you connect the government line directly to the airport, I think that would alleviate a lot of the pressure on the other two. Besides, if you have diplomats, etc. You would want a direct connection to the airport anyway. And you'd definitely want to put them on a seat next to a Bucs head. GOOOO BUCSSSSS!!!

Yo CPP! I just binged this entire city in just a few days. It’s a ton of great things. Waaaaay back when, you had aspirations of crossing the river as well as building out fishermen’s bend. Did those fall off? Also, you still need ore for your industry buildings!! Lastly, about 6 episodes ago you redid part of Ocean Ave near the memorial to continue it being one of the longest streets, the change to the spider metro hub ruined that. Also also, could you give more space to the express line then have a dedicated zoo / camp line from one of the legs? It’d put my heart at ease. Absolutely loving the series. Fix Ocean Avenue please!!

I love how Verde Beach is filling out. It's turning into such a charming city. I'm loving Clearwater County as well. I'm from Michigan and it just feels so midwestern to me with the layout of the school, downtown, and Walmart/tractor supply. It all feels so familiar in a weird way

The central station looks amazing now! While the central station looks great by itself, it had the same pattern along the entire front. Having the monorail in the center gives it some visual interest by breaking up the repeating contours. I think it is a great addition.

Great episode as always! I would also like to say that I think you shouldn't worry too much about the metro being "hokey", since the game is pretty restrictive and (sort of like highways) they're always going to look a little weird.
