Fun fact... that big white clip above all those wires disconnects the entire unit. I found this out after replacing the light switch. Now I'm working on the fan switch. Thanks for the video, bud. This was helpful.

Looks great, and with a brighter bulb installed that’s all the light you need. kzbin.infoUgkxWF88GpljEn-0o34vtLFazEQ5h5Q33SjU As far as ease of installation- this was my first ceiling fan and it took about 3 hours because I had no idea what I was doing and also it’s helpful to have a second set of hands and a magnetic drill bit. Works great.

WOW thank you so much! I have a beautiful ceiling fan that I didn’t want to replace. The lights work but the fan portion stopped working a year ago. I was at Home Depot yesterday looking at ceiling fans when the gentleman working there asked if I needed help. I shared why I was looking at ceiling fans and he suggested that maybe it’s just the fan switch that needs replaced and recommended I Google or You Tube how to replace it. This was so helpful! 🙏 It will be a lot cheaper to try this first. This is the first video I watched. Super helpful! Thank you again

LOL. This is why I use KZbin! I bought the same replacement switch. I "thought" that the connections had tiny screws in the plate and couldn't get them to turn. And, when I tried to push the wires in, I didn't realize it needed to be pushed in with a little effort. I am so used to screw connections. After watching this video, I felt like an idiot and was able to secure the wires in 2 seconds. The wires all matched except the grey. I had 2 greys. Tried each one separately with no joy. Finally realized the 2 greys at the fan connect to the one grey on the switch, worked fine after that. Good job, good video. Thank you.

Thank you so very much for posting this video. I knew how to change the fan switch, but when I took it apart, the switch had fell to pieces and I had no idea which wire went to which number/letter. Within 10 seconds you told me everything I needed to know, and I’m so grateful. Thank you very much. Love youtube!

Very good information, however there is one thing that I never saw after watching several of these types of videos. I bought a 3 speed double capacitor fan switch at home depot. It went in real easy, and then when I turned on the fan it worked. However, the fan would not turn off, so I figured that it was faulty. Well when I got back to the store and was about to select the same switch, I notice that there was another switch of the same size but I noticed that it said single capacitor. I asked the guy who was in that department and he said more than likely, this would be the switch for your fan. Well he was right, and now it works like new. So be sure to know which capacitor your fan is set up for.

In mine the chain broke off in the switch. I replaced it and now the fan only has Hi and Med. I will NOT shut off. I then replaced the capacitor. Sill the same thing. I'm at wits end. Any advice please....

@@Android_Warrior maybe you can find the manufacturers number of the fan or anything else that would help identify the style/type of fan you have. Call the company that made it,they should be able to tell, I would think.

I usually see the switches with the pig-tail wires that are connected with a wire nut. Yet I asked an electrician friend and he said this is typical for fans! I never saw this type of cheap switch before but it is EXACTLY what was in my Hunter fan - the pull chain broke off so I had to replace it.

Nice video but I would have turned the power off before doing any work on this chain switch just to be safe. For me, I have a problem with my job since I lost the paper that had my notes of which colored wire went to which number. I know the black one goes to "L" but not sure about the other three and will have to figure that out somehow.

Take a picture of faulty switch to match colors wit numbers on new switch. I also have medium and high speed with new switch. Absolutely couldn't insert yellow wire, no matter stripping and twisting so I cut it off at connecting black box. Now I don't have lights. Separate issue, I'm sure.

And that pull cord problem is why it's actually a good idea to stop buying cheap pull cords for ceiling fans, and instad add smart remote control access to ceiling fans, so that you can control your ceiling fan's speeds and lights with just your iPhone or Android device, and your voice to Google Home assistant, Alexa Home, etc.

Hi. Any chance you have ideas on my problem....Before I changed my switch, the fan would stay on HIGH, so 1, 2 and 3 were all high speed, then the last click was off. Then, after changing the switch, it change to HIGH, MEDIUM, OFF, OFF. What the heck!! So, I changed out the capacitor also and ended up with HIGH, HIGH, OFF, OFF. Could it be that the orange, purple, yellow and black are in the wrong locations? This was a second hand fan. I have not idea what its history is, but its a super cool fan and worth the effort!!

That is a Hampton Bay Carriage House II. I can see that medium speed is slower than what it was supposed to be, you must have used the wrong chain switch that goes L-1, L-2, L-3. The right one goes L-1, L-2-3, and L-3. The original chain switch is ZING EAR ZE-208S6.
