Great video .I always put a nylon washer on top so the spring does not damage the screw in plastic caps .

thanks for the vid, I happen to have the exact specialized stumpjumper A1 FS w/ the Quadra 21s, thinking about doing these, as it looks pretty darn easy.

Hi I just purchased a nicely cared for Quadra 21R. The elastomers seem to be soft for me. I weigh 215lbs, I’m considering replacing them with a set from Suspension Fork Parts but I’m also considering going the route you did with these springs. My question to you is how do you like the feel and ride of these springs? Thanks for your time. Great video by the way! Very helpful and informative!👌🏼

Thank you so much for doing this video. I am feeling like I can now do this with my RS Indy XC and that exact kit. How do the forks work with the springs? Any concerns about the plastic screw caps letting go and the springs coming out with hard use? Thanks again!!!

No problem I’m glad I was able to help! I have no concern about the plastic screw caps coming out as they seem to be very strong and secure despite being plastic and I have not had any issues so far during riding. Just let me know if you have more questions.

@@michaelhelton3101 Thank you Michael! My kit arrives Monday. I just got the old elastomers out, which was very tough as they degraded over the years. All cleaned up and ready to roll with the new springs when they get here. Your video is a huge help. Thanks again.

my cap threads were toast. same concern with a top cap exploding out. I bought m23x1 aluminum head tubes to replace. there is no preload adjustment anymore so why not chance it. I have rock shox quadra 21r.

@@icantgivecredit871 search M23 head tube. it is a very odd thread size for a pipe. it is also fine thread which blows my mind. It took me a while to determine this, no idea why they went such uncommon thread size and did not use bsp or nps... probably to keep people from doing what I did with the head tubes, but I feel a lot better with that hunk of aluminum in there than the plastic threads they used.

What is bottomed-out? I bought a Stumpjumper from maybe 2001 and the front suspension has a lot of travel. It does not seem to have a lot of wear to the bike generally.

Help! I inherited a set Indy SL shocks. Will the blue (150lbs) springs offered now on ebay work? It mentions SL, but not Indy...

Hi. Thanks for posting this video. I’ve just ordered a set of springs. Would you say that a spring install on its own is sufficient to bring the fork back to life? No need to take the fork apart for re-lube / rebuild? Thanks.

My top cap threads looked like been through the war. I had major concerns with these blowing out in a catastrophic even. Ended up buying aluminun M23x1 headtube caps. why it is this odd thread size I do not know, seems like it could have been npt 3/4".

Hi Michael, I didn't know this kit existed, but I replaced my my elastomers with some springs from some Marzocchi bombers. I have found that there is no damping whatsoever, but with the elastomers there was a degree of damping due to the slower recoil of the elastomer material. Have you noticed this?

I'm curious to know if you think it's worth it compared to just using rigid forks?
@joeherget8996

Yes , this is the weakness of springs in forks without a separate damping system.

I have a 1996 Rock Shox Judy Xc. Elastomers were all crumbled inside. I just removed everything. Is it as simple as adding these now? Any tricks to them... I think I want the red ones because I am over 200 lbd. Thoughts. Thanks for the advice and cool video!

Hello, no tricks to the install it really is just as simple as sliding the assembly in. It can just take a bit of time to get the old ones out if they are degraded like the ones shown in the video but if you have already done that you should be good to go.

@@michaelhelton3101 mine were a mess... crumbly and dusty. I did notice each side of the fork is a bit different... the rods in the middle are not exactly the same...

@@mscottledoux93 I have a similar issue with a set of elastomers in my Rock Shox Quadra 21r. the elastomers are so old and dead, they have turned to clay. i was only able to pull out the first 3 sections. I think I need to be careful when trying to scrape out the paste (I mean elastomers stuck in the tube) to not damage the inside of the tube? You said use a coathanger? maybe some chopsticks would be better, or a long pencil, to get out the goo, not scratching the inside? or no matter? I have to say, i bought the replacement elastomers online, but it looks like your spring method is a much better way to rebuild it.
