The maintenance plan is definitely worth it! Once your new vehicle warranty or CPO runs out I highly recommend getting a warranty extension!

That’s legit crazy how much easier the bmw engineers made this …. And you knock that shit out the park ….. when I changed the dash on my 07 TL it was a nightmare …. The center console came out piece by piece the steering wheel wires had the be fished through the column … instead of having the dash come out piece by piece where it was more manageable you had to take it out as a whole, which meant removing both front seat and parts of the carpet .

Working on a 2019 x40i, finding the leak was very difficult as it seems that the condensate drains onto the top of the trans to help it "boil" off and reduce condensation puddles, i only found a small dot of leak detect uv on a trans pan bolt, assumedly there is a green pudlle on top of the trans haha. Thanks for the video most likely it will go to the dealer for work but you mentioning the evaporator set me on the path, thanks again

Great job and thankfully you were able to find some trace of the uv dye! Sometimes the leak isn't big enough to drip dye down the condensation tube right away and the customer has to go through a whole systems worthe of refrigerant to be able to see it in the drain. We have tools to pressure test it fortunately to help with the diag.

I was thinking about shopping for a ‘19 X5. This has me second guessing. Is it just the 2019s? How many hours did they take you in case I have to do it lol.

I'd look for one with CPO and ask if the evaporator has been done already. I've only seen the ones front factory leak. All the ones that have been replaced have been fine.

would the passenger side vents blowing warm air instead of cold be an issue this replacement would fix?

Of it blows cold on the other side, then it’s not an evaporator problem. Probably a stepper motor on that plastic HVAC box.

Yes this can be a possibility but it would need to be property diagnosed. Most cars I would say it would be a stratification motor but that's not a common failure point on a g05 X5. Because of how the design of the veins on the evaporator, if the system is low on refrigerant, some of the evaporator will cool but taper off further down the veins. Overall cooling won't be very good but it may be worse on one side than the other.

I am a friend of mine both have G05s and both of us had our evaporators go out on our vehicles. Is this something you're seeing as a common thing with the G05s?

It's a super common issue with the evaporators from the factory. I haven't seen any of the replaced ones go out yet. I think it's just poor welds on the original batch during production.

Holy sh*t. My 2019 X3 M40i is currently in the shop at BMW for an evaporator leak. My A/C started blowing hot so they put dye in it to see if there was a leak and sure enough it was the evaporator. Thank god I got an extended warranty on it. How much would this cost without a warranty? Just out of curiosity.

I am trying to remove the center console, but there is a wiring harness in the back I cannot figure out how to disconnect the junction box in the rear (mine has rear climate)

@@Spongekid01 No. As we started to put the dashboard back together we realized didn’t know where 3 connections went. So I found a mobile mechanic that only charged me $350 to test it and put it back together and charge it. I gave him a generous tip. He lives one town over and was more amazing than going to BMW.

this is completely unreasonable burying the evaporator inside the dash this way, as this part us highly susceptible to leaks. It should be planned a replacement plan for it without just dismantle all the car this way, and that surely it will never be the same again as several broken plastic tabs, loosen screws and bad fitted parts will surely happens, with unwanted noises, squeaks and whatever more problems after a so severe unmounting / mounting operation like these. Better sell the car without AC and buy another one.

BMW should just make the evaporator swappable like the AC filter. This part is supposed the last the lifetime of the vehicle.
