Replacing Headshell Leads (that are too big for the pins)

In this video I will demonstrate how easy it is to switch out your turntable lead wires (the wires connecting your tonearm to your cartridge). This video also shows what to do if your leadwire connectors are too big for your headshell pins.

Yup just ran into this, pl-518 & new audio technica headshell was causing tonearm drift opon dropping the cue arm before hitting the groove it was drifting toward arm rest. Had to change cart to pioneer oem headshell and wires did exactly this! Used the old pioneer ones was seriously not ideal.

the hard part is connecting them to the stylus...,it was probebly me ..just found it to shakey ..haha...had to reorder...good video.thanks

It takes a steady hand. I'm not always that steady but I manage. Alcohol or drugs can help or hinder.

Is it possible that when the green wire has no sleeving it could be picking up interference and causing hum?

Too bad my Rega wont let me remove a headshell ;^(

@ No grounding, VTA or Azimuth adjust either. Speeds are a bit fast and again, no headshell removal. These days, Id go for a used PLX1000 or SL1200.

@ If you re new to the hobby, the Rega cant be beat, its easy to plug and play. These days Im more knowledgable and want to fuss and tinker, used will always be best but Im also a strong believer in value drop off. A 500 to 1000$ is all I would ever need for life. MY 1800$ SL1210GR just isnt 1000$ better than an old SL1200 or new PLX1000. I would have done better sinking that money into a cartridge and Speakers.

@@leon9021 Also, when I typed it I was kind of in a "plug and play, normie, this'll due, I'm only maybe upgrading the cartridge kind of statement. If a friend asked me the bottom line decent table that's easy to use, it's a really decent at 475.

You just have to be gentle removing those plugs from the headshell. Like any plugs a headshell, If you break them then you have to somehow solder them back on, regardless if they're soldered or crimped connectors. Unless you have the luxury of a crimper and crimping terminals. I've never actually seen those for sale or the crimping tool to crimp them with. A soldering iron on the other hand all technicians or non technicians, handymen have one.
