8:50 Why would you remove the ptfe tubing at the end? In my bike it stays in the frame, which I thought was the point, to help protect it form moisture or rust just as regular (thicker) housing would do. #stilllearning

Hi, thanks for your comment, and apologies for the delayed response. Although leaving PTFE is not necessary, you're right that it can offer some additional protection to the cable inside the frame.

What a great video. Have now got bikes with internal routing and looking forward to having a go replacing the gear cables soon. Thanks for the instruction.

Excellent! We like to hear that someone's looking forward to doing a repair rather than dreading it! Thanks for your comment. 🙏

A great video! I have a cannondale systemsix and that has full cabling throughout the frame (inner and outer cable). Love the hack with the electrical tape. My only worry is cutting the outer to length correctly as the handle bars are also internally routed so even after getting out of the frame I still have the handlebars to go 😂 But again a great video. 2024 will be the year I won’t be scared to maintain my bike

Thank you for the support! I'm thrilled that you enjoyed the video and found the electrical tape hack useful. Yeah, you will definitely need to cut your outer a bit longer to also include the handlebars. I'm excited for you to conquer your bike maintenance fears in 2024!💪🙂

Hi! I have a Huffy 26’ Trail Runner and my spring shock came unloose. Do you have any videos on spring shock replacement?

Hey there! Thanks for reaching out. Currently, we don't have a video specifically covering the adjustment/ replacement of the spring shock. However, I appreciate your suggestion, and I will definitely look into it. It's possible that we might create a video on this topic in the near future. In the meantime, if you need help with your spring shock, I suggest reaching out to your local bike shop. They should be able to assist you further.

Wouldn't it be better to use a plastic shim to remove the cable cover at 3:48 ? Looks like the frame got scratched with the screwdriver 😬

My internal routed inner cable has been removed. Both entry and exit holes are on the side of the frame. There is no outer running through the frame. Which would be the way to thread the inner and retrieve it at the other end?

Hi Jay. Sounds like you're in a bit of a trouble. There's no easy way here. Turn the bike sideways and let the gravity help you. Fit the cable in one hole and push towards the other one. If you're patient enough you will eventually be able to see the cable near the other hole (some kind of torch will be useful). You can then hopefully grab the cable using thin pliers. Let me know how you got on and I hope you will be succesful. If you're not getting anywhere and the level of frustration is rising then sock it up and use a local bike shop. They have experience which is the key in these kind of situations.

@@cyclemaintenanceacademyalso and not a cheap option, could they use the park tool internal cable routing kit with its magnets etc?

Wonder if you can do same trick electricians use: a thin cotton thread and a vacuum. Then use that cotton thread to pull cables.

Hi, thanks for sharing your suggestion and apologies for not getting back to you sooner. That's an interesting idea. I'll have to give that trick a try. Thanks🙂
