What's your favorite/go-to option to carry your gear when you ride?

first, that was a great video man. I was always the bike mechanic or anchor and had 15-35 pounds on many rides. all my water in my bag too, I do not use bottle cages. I have a weird back though and it actually helps me on most rides. But i do not ride like you do . i'm old and ride 90's hard tails. LOL

@Andy Jensen - Thanks! Very true, there aren't any easy answers, but to be honest I love trying out new stuff - so it works out!

I have put all my tools in my steer tube with a one up edc tool, works awesome. I wear the same osprey hip pack because I do 18+ mile rides and a waterbottle or two just is not enough water for me on hot days. I need the 1.5L water blatter that only a watter bag provides. I only have water and energy bars in it to keep it light.

Try riding over a fallen tree. The battle scars on my bash guard is a testament of its use.

@@elroobike I am intrigued by mounting points near the BB. Pivot must have some practical reason to have them there.

Hydration pack works for me nicely

Out here on the east coast, I'd rip that off on a log crossing. I've hit my chainring on plenty of them. For shorter rides on my XC/trail bike I carry a bottle in the frame and tools on a Woolftooth BRad strap mounted under the toptube and a OneUp EDC in the steerer tube. For medium length rides I'll add a second bottle in my cargo bib pocket. For long rides I still use a hydration pack but leave the tools mounted. On my long travel bike I use an Evoc frame back mounted behind the headtube.

@Andy Mullins - What a great set-up! That was my main goal, move toward a flexible set-up that worked for each ride. I have really liked not wearing a backpack and hip-pack unless I have to, it just feels so much better.

EXCELLENT. I don't know where I'd mount it. I have a pouch 4 times the size and haven't put it on yet. It goes under the seat. I got it filled with stuff I'd need for sure. Just don't have the right look. Great video!

@Adonikam - I forgot to mention the seat bag - shoot! That can be a great option depending on if you use a seat dropper or not. It hit my tire, so I had to move on. Looks is another thing, I like a nice clean look for my bike, I also like not personally carrying a bunch on me. Tough balance.

I like to use one-up edc v2 tool that you store in your steering tube or edc pump. And i use fidlock water bottle for your drink all carried on your bike. And yes you can carry co2 with the one-up edc tool in the steering tube or in the pump...

Great item for carrying the tube. I have the OneUp components in my steerer tube and a Oneup Pump for tools. But this item would look better on my bike than the tube just strapped to it.

@DEM's Biking Adventures - Hey! I think they intented it to fit a tube, but I'm a rebel and filled it with a few tools and such. I like the OneUp steer tube system, just wish you could fit CO2 cartridge in it too.

Great video Grant! But I’m gonna give you a big NOPE, on that one. There’s better spots to mount it on the bike. I’d worry that if I did catch it on something, it could damage the frame. I’m gonna get the Phoenix ninja tool dock thing and mount it under the top tube. Oh ya.. you did a video on that and didn’t like it?? I’ll be sticking with my small camelback though. Been using it for literally decades and it’s served me well.

@Troy Esch - Thanks Troy! Lol - I knew mounting it to the bottom bracket wasn't going to be popular, but man it's interesting if it works. I'll be the Guiana Pig! The ninja box has a very robust set of tools. If you want to be prepared, it is a great option. I love the mounting system the use for both of these, it's so slick. You'll have to let me know what you think about it.

@Alex Brothers - Thanks, I appreciate the kind words. When I bought my 429 I wanted the enduro version but wasn't patient enough to wait for it. I settled for swapping out the fork, but I still think the shock would have been nice during rougher descents.

I'm really surprised it didn't catch on anything. I thought at 1st this was an April fools joke! Innovative idea. I wouldn't do this for 2 reasons. I live in the desert and that would get dirty fast. secondly I need a bit more storage. I use a wolf tooth B-rad roll. Thanks for the video.

@Jeff W - I knew the location would be controversial! Time will tell how well this one stands up to trail abuse. How do you like the B-roll, and where do you mount it?

@Heath Gentry - I wish my current bike had the built in downtube storage I see in some bikes. Not sure it would fix everything, but at least I could keep the essentials in it.

Ok. That bag would easily get torn off when u go over a log. Best modern solution is built in frame storage. Specialized started the whole trend years ago.

Where do you put the 2 liters of water and first aid kit? Do you just use a water bottle? I always ride alone so I always bring a medical kit, knife, multitool, innertube, puncture tool with strips, two CO2 cartridges with inflation tool, tire removal tool, 2 liters of water, string/rope, two or three energy bars, extra cash, emergency whistle, poop kit and bear/pepper spray all in a backpack. Yes, I may never need any of this but I see it like wearing a seat belt, you only need it when you crash, so are you willing to take that risk? I am not. Your mileage may vary. A two hour ride in the desert alone could turn into an all day event for the worse very quickly.
@elroobike
@elroobike Жыл бұрын
@Scott Morton - You are spot on. I wanted to find a base kit that I could add on to for each ride. It seems like a balance of how long you ride, where you ride and what you comfortable with. I can say that I really enjoy the feeling of not having a heavy bag on my back or hips whenever possible.

my boy great video but please give yourself more headspace your frame is literally chopping the top of your head it looks quite jarring spcially on the side angle i would also recommend getting rid of that angle altogether and finding one that changes a bit more, changes in frame should be more than 30 degrees and be justified somehow by showing something new so i would actually make it a closeup shot of the actual products you are showcasing, your lighting set up looks way better from the front, the side angle has some harsher shadows that arent as flattering.
