Replacing Rear Window Weatherstrip on a First Gen Toyota Sequoia

Here is how to replace the Rear Window Weatherstrip or Back Glass Trim on my first generation 2002 Toyota Sequoia. I also cover the reasons why you should replace instead of repainting this piece.
A lot of people will simply Plastidip or paint this piece to restore its appearance. The problem is the felt liner will eventually dry out and start scratching the window so it's better to replace it.
I installed an OEM piece that I bought directly from my local Toyota dealership:
Part # 68290-0C010
Price: $80.65 + tax
You can often find it for about $50 on various third party websites.
Call the dealership with your VIN to confirm fitment.

Thanks for the video. For those of you wondering, like I was, if this can be replaced with the window in the "up" position, the answer is absolutely yes! I just replaced mine the other day with the window up. Took about 10 minutes including cleaning the grime underneath the old one. I used a plastic trim removal tool, the kind of 'V' shaped type, to slip under the old trim piece and just push up on it along the length of the piece. The old one will just pop off this way. One of the white clips did stay attached to the vehicle but it was easy enough to pry off. Then simply line up the white clips/tabs with the holes between the metal and the window, make sure they're all tucked behind the metal part (and make very sure that the ends of the new trim piece are pushed behind the left and right vertical trim pieces, not in front of them) and work the trim piece evenly down until the clips all click into place. Push down along the length to make sure they're all fully seated (like Justin explained), and you're done! Wish I would have done this years ago to prevent all the water (and salt!) that have dripped down into the hatch and rusted everything out including the entire window mechanism which is why I can no longer put the window down!

I worked on the A-Pillar and B-Pillar of this vehicle. :) I remember having test parts that had to be driven up to Toyota (Indiana/Kentucky) for them to test fit on their first 'test' vehicles.

You all did a great job then because everything still fits great! I was just noticing earlier today how the tail lights line up within about a millimeter on the tailgate and the body. There are brand new cars that don't achieve that level of fitment.

Good tip about the weatherstripping protecting the latch! You can also role down the rear window buy putting your key in the rear hatch and turning it to the right.

I just tried it and it worked. That's pretty neat! Mine goes down turning to the left and back up if you turn it the other way. They really did think of everything.

anyone have anything for when the rear window rolls itself down when cutting the engine off. when the vehicle is on, u can hear the door locks working themselves also

Water is getting into the liftgate lock cylinder/switch. Same thing happened to mine. I unplugged the switch and no more problems. You can't roll down the window or lock/unlock the liftgate from that switch anymore but I prefer that problem to the unexpected and uncommanded window roll-down and locks acting up. You have to remove the interior liftgate trim and the little access panel and then you can unplug the switch.

Do you think it’s still possible without rolling the window down? Having the leaking issue but motor isn’t working right now

If you were really careful prying the old one off, I think you could get the new one on okay. Maybe try wrapping some needle nose pliers in electrical tape to prevent scratching the window and then slowly pull the old trim piece up. I'm not 100% sure about it going back on though. Wouldn't want you to get stuck with the piece removed.
