In this video, I replace the worn secondary rubber seals on my 10-year old Keystone Cougar trailer's main slide-out room. I show how to install the new slide seal and discuss sourcing it and the other slide seals such as the 2" wiper seal.

Another great job is done Ray but if you put on a slide topper it will preserve the top of the slide from debris and rain. Nice job Ray.

Toppers have pros and cons, personally, I'd rather not have a topper, I just have the one slide. We often camp in very high winds during our normal winters in the desert and travels on the west coast. The flapping would be annoying and worrying about them being ripped off. Plus the added cost and maintenance. I think I'd rather change the membrane every 10 years or so than deal with the slide topper and extra hardware. :) Maybe if I camped under trees a lot or in high heat I'd think about having one for shade. But for me there isn't a compelling reason to bother with one. Slide toppers can also be an issue in the snowy weather if the wind blows the snow under and it then melts and refreezes and creates an ice dam under the topper. I've heard various pro and con opinions on them from people over the years that have them and have personally watched people have to use all sorts of methods to tie them down or have to bring the slides if strong winds kick up. One guy I spoke to in an RV Park in Mojave, CA, told me he lost all 4 of his slide toppers when a 100 mph gust came through. Each to their own but not something that I plan on adding to the rig. Maybe when I'm older and less agile and can no longer clear the roof I'll want one. Cheers, Ray

@@LoveYourRV Yes you are right it depends on the situation of every individual, I have 2 on mine and yes they are cumbersome to clean, and to think of it I place a small ball under the awning so we do not get a puddle of water in the center but its camping.

Fluid Film loves synthetic rubber! Don't spray it directly, soak a rag and wipe it on. 303 is good, I use it on my interiors but FF swells the rubber a bit, rejuvenates appearance and performance. The weather seals on my 2005 vehicle look and operate as new including no freezing to the door frame. No wind whistle, no dusty interior. My mechanic doesn't believe me that they are original to the vehicle. Thanks for all you do for all of us Ray.

Thanks for the tip, but I'd be hesitant to use FF near the RV roof especially the wiper seal that sits on the surface, most petroleum/paraffin products can have a negative effect on EPDM roof materials - www.matsmatsmats.com/commercial-industrial/epdm-resistance-to-chemicals.html If the FF swells the EDPM synthetic rubber it could cause the underlying glue to detach leading to bubbles or softening. Cheers, Ray

@@LoveYourRV Fluid Film is lanolin based...sheep wool wax. Zero petroleum in it. Maybe swell was the wrong word, it restores flattened and used weather seals to like new dimensions. Plumps them up.

Another handy video ("If they don't find you hansom..."). I looked through your previous videos, Ray, but I can't find the milk in the refrigerator. I am having leaking problems with joints in my gutters. Have you had to do gutter repairs?
@LoveYourRV
@LoveYourRV 3 жыл бұрын
I haven't had too many problems. I did have one leaking at the seam where two gutter lengths met. It would run down the side wall making a black streak all the time. The OEM had used silicone caulking to seal and it had dried and worn out. I clean out the old sealant and used a little Eternabond roof patch tape on the underside to reseal. Cheers, Ray

Thanks Ray, I'll give it a go. Awesome video featuring your charging system! Great clean wiring that. Maybe if you have heat issues if you travel south, a little 12v fans on a thermocouples next to the controlles would help?

FYI ... The red can, foam seal conditioner is usually available at Camping World. I get a can a year and do my seals several times a year with it.

Cross border shipping and customs brokerage charges generally make it not worth it for us. Usually cheaper to get up here from other suppliers, also returns would be a major pain due to the reverse border shipping. I find in this area on the coast lots of the boating and marine stores are a good bet for most products along with Amazon.ca and Canadian Tire stores.

👍👍 Great info. Thanks Ray. Was wondering if you use wheel covers when you're set up?
@LoveYourRV
@LoveYourRV 3 жыл бұрын
No, I don't bother, trailer tires like mine wear out fast and we travel a lot so I find I'm usually replacing them every 2-3 years for worn out tread well before they would have any sun damage issues. Usually I see the covers on big motorhomes that have large really expensive long lasting tires.

You seem to have the Camco EvoFlex hose. How do you like it so far? 2 weeks ago received the 10' but not going camping before mid-June. Just had to re-book Ontario reservation due to travel restrictions between Qc & On.

I bought the 35 footer a few weeks ago and like how nice and flexible and nickel plated connections it is but its taking its time getting rid of the weird new rubbery taste in the water. My Camco heated hose I got for the winter did they same thing, took a while to get rid of the taste. So have to run the water a bit when getting a drink.

Hey Ray! I would like to make just one suggestion...I would have cut those rubber seals on a 45 degree angle so their surfaces are flush, and then sealed them together with some liquid rubber or Flex Seal. Thanks!
