Replacing Shocks on 84-95 Toyota Pickup Truck
rodsshop.org/get/auto-mechani...
This video shows how to replace your shock absorbers on an 84 to 95 Toyota Pickup Truck. The rear shocks are usually the easiest to change out. The fronts are a little more challenging due to how the top nut can often get rusted or frozen by dirt. There is a shock socket that can make the job a lot easier. You will find it and these KYB Gas Charged Shocks down in the description.
Unfortunately, I couldn’t get a good footage of taking the two bottom bolts loose on the front shocks. However, it is really simple, so you should be able to figure it out with ease. Always practice safety when lifting up a car.

Thinking of buying those same shocks how do you like the ride so far? Thanks for the tutorial really helpful!

It made the truck feel and drive completely different, in a good way of course. The truck felt a little loose on the road but these shocks made it felt like it had suction cups on the road. The old shocks just couldn't keep the tires on the road and actually caused this truck to get in a wreck. After the new shocks, it is hard to make it lose traction.

Are the rear shocks side specific? I was on another video and the comment section was saying that in the rear, there's 2 different shock lengths.
@RodsshopOrg
@RodsshopOrg Жыл бұрын
There can be different shock lengths but that means as a set, not different from one side to the other. So the answer is no, the shocks are not side specific.

I was installing mine today and reusing old hardware and I realized I was missing a cup washer on one side, would I be able to use a thick flat washer or something like that?
@RodsshopOrg
@RodsshopOrg Жыл бұрын
Most parts stores sell those cup washers for shocks in help kits and such. But you can use a flat washer if you have to, the cup is better though and if you can get one, go that route.

My customer loved them on this truck, really helped his stopping as he was sliding the back tires. I have these on my Chevy truck, the best ride it has ever had.

KYB's are the best for everyday and a little performance uses. I have used them for years and never had any issues like I have with Monroe and Gabriel

i bought some bilstein 5100 for my 94'. It did not come with eyelet bushings for the front and rear shocks. what sizes do i look for.
@RodsshopOrg
@RodsshopOrg Жыл бұрын
I would send them back or at least contact them about the bushing missing. I say that because on those style shocks, the bushings are kind of pressed in and the average mechanic would have a tough time pressing them in there. You want them tight, just finding some bushing to slide in it will be too lose and wear out. The shock is supposed to come with a new bushing as this is one part that is considered to wear out and should be replaced. Contact who you bought them from or the company itself and tell them they owe you shocks with bushings.

@@RodsshopOrg i finally grabbed these correct shocks, thank u. when u were explaining to remove the front shocks, did you say only jack it up by the lower control arm? i dont have to jack the front end driver side frame anymore? is it okay to remove the tire that way.
@RodsshopOrg
@RodsshopOrg 11 ай бұрын
@@MrDanielSolano007 The reason I say to jack it up from the control arm is that the shock is what keeps the control arm from dropping way down too far. In other words, if you jack it up from any other place, you won't be able to connect the shock, the control arm will be too low.
@BonanzaPanda
@BonanzaPanda Жыл бұрын
you could do the rear with no jack, the leafs are keeping them in place.

that special socket, do I need that for the job?
@RodsshopOrg
@RodsshopOrg Жыл бұрын
Having that socket makes the job so much easier. Sometimes you get lucky and the nut will come off without much effort, but if it has been on there a long time, the socket is the way to go. If you do not want to buy, most all local parts houses do rent-a-tool, just do that.

Spray some wd-40 on old bushings
@RodsshopOrg
@RodsshopOrg Жыл бұрын
It is best to use a silicone lube and WD-40 and other oil based lubricants can eventually soften the rubber and cause them to fail prematurely.
