I finally managed to get all the parts; four oem spark plugs on sale for $40 and a long spark plug socket and finished the job in under half an hour while watching this video in the heat of my garage. My car is just about 20,000 miles over the recommended change, never too late. thanks again

Hey that's awesome. Where did you find the spark plug? was it 40 total or a piece? The process is pretty quick. Well at least you got them changed better then not changing them for much longer. I glad my video helped, Thanks for watching.

crap! I didn't realize finding the right spark plug could be tricky on these! I'm very grateful that you caught yourself having this issue and shared it with us. it's encouraged me triple check before actually buying any. I might just open it up to see what she's already got, even though it sounds like they might not make that specific plug anymore. If you're lurking looking for info, i can't help much, still researching, but it looks like there might be different plugs based on the 8th number in your vin (and there's 5 variations, oui). I THINK the vin 7 skyactiv was originally gapped to 0.03-0.032, and i know the gap is very important with the skyactiv engines. but i'm seeing hints that ~0.044 might work fine (and it looks like that's all ngk offers for this engine nowadays). definitely gotta keep digging. thankfully the plugs last well so it's not a majorly pressing issue. annoying nonetheless! There are a lot of oddball tricky problems people have had with these. thank you for the heads up and great tutorial

Bought the right spark plugs by giving the auto part store my vin number. They were pre-gapped. The 9/16 socket needed a deeper reach even though it was made for the spark plugs according to them. But they still made an exchange for another deeper socket. Other than that, followed your directions and all was well. Thx!!!

The best way to get parts and or part numbers is giving your vin to ensure the part matching with your vehicle. Yes my plugs were pre gabbed too it makes for a quick and easy job. I am glad my video helped and was easy to follow. Thanks for watching.

When you were replacing these, did you find that the car was stuttering at idle, and maybe kind of slipping at low rpm? I'm at 118k km. About time to do mine as well.
@TDLDIY
@TDLDIY 4 жыл бұрын
Are you talking about the old plugs? No it wasn't acting up with the old plugs just knew it was about time. Plus the dealer could've have said it time due to the kms on the car. so I did and I found it ran a bit smoother but not really noticable. Yes I would say it's about time to change your plugs. I hope I was able to answer your question. Good luck on the plugs. Thanks for watching.

i just changed mine today. same plugs as the one you put in. When i pulled #4 out i saw some greasy oil stain on the treads (maybe half the treads). All the other 3 looked pretty dry. Any idea why that is. One good note is that the car felt great after the plug change. acceleration was much smoother.
@TDLDIY
@TDLDIY 5 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear you changed the plugs yourself and it now drives much better. As for your 4th Plug could many different things. If it was oil could be due to a bad valve cover gasket might need to be changed/possible crack in the valve cover less unlikely. If it was black looking and wet could be that spark plug failed before the rest and resulting in fuel not being burned and carbon build up, which could lead to misfire. You would be able to smell gas on it. Possible bad injector giving too much fuel. So what i would do is just check on that spark plug a week from now and then again in a month or so. Could just have been a bad spark plug which is not fixed. I hope this might help in someway. Thanks for watching!

I did mine about 118 000 km. somewhere around there I believe these plugs are supposed to be good for 100 000 kms. Give or take all depends how you drive. I hope this helps I would check your plugs around 80 000 km if there look good then check again at 100 000kms they should be replaced by then.

@@TDLDIY There are also 'Genuine Mazda Iridium' spark plugs on Ebay at a substantially discounted price from some sellers that claim they are legit US sellers but in reality are Chinese selling counterfeit parts that very hard to recognize as fake unless you compare with the real thing.
