Thank you so much for posting the step by step instructions. I was just about to go and buy yet another sweeper when I found you. Ordered the 6 Ni-Cad cell battery pack from the link you posted and got it very promptly. Was able to use Paypal too. Expensive batteries yes, but half the cost of another Swiffer......if you can find them in your store. I'm a 65 yr old woman who's not afraid to try and fix stuff. I figured, it's close to dead anyway, so what could I screw up to make it worse. I agree, the toughest part is getting that "release" button and spring triggered slide to sit still and stay in place during re-assembly. Took me all of 20 minutes ( 10 of it with that dumb "release" tab) and watched your video as I went along. Presto, it works like a charm again. I allowed the battery to discharge until the blinking red light came on and am doing a full overnight recharge as recommended by Sweeperbattery's package insert. So, If a great-grandma can do it, anyone can. Thanks again for a great video.

Worked great! One hint. Leave the release button out until you have the body back together with the other pieces and the screws started. Then you can put it in, one end at a time.

Thanks muttrus1. The only challenge I had was removing the existing battery pack from the plastic holder. The brown wrap around the cells had actually bonded to the plastic in a few spots. Slowly working a flat tip screwdriver from end- to middle- to end to pry the battery pack out did the trick. The one thing I added was electrical tape over the terminals after I crimped them together just to be safe.

these are not c cell batteries and they are NiCd rechargeable. I ordered them through sweeperbattery.com. They come connected and ready to insert into in the swiffer sweeper vacuum.

thank you for this video. i would not have been able to put my vac back together without it!!!unfortunately i broke the rubber hose that attaches to the sweeper,but my trusty hot glue gun saved the day and i just glued the hose back to the body of the vac.

Yes, I opened my Swiffer up and had a diff battery configuration. This was AFTER I bought the battery :( Don't see my type of battery available, so can't replace at this point.

What is the power of batteries. Any rechargeable batteries should work if you use correct size.

its been awhile since we made this vid for out daughter! But looking back over the video I do not think there was a spring with the on /off button- you may have put it back incorrectly- there is a little tab that needs to go back in and be touching the switch itself. If you are talking about the green release switch for the filter basket then yes their is a spring. please remember this is the older version of the vacuum, Model FS-4000. Ours is at least 10 years old and there is a newer model that may be different than this one. I do know that the newer model does not use this battery. Hope this helps. There is also a customer service # on the label- 1 800-395-5594 it says Customer Service or Replacement parts. Good Luck

I tested my battery with a multi meter and it reads ok. does that mean perhaps the charger is bad? when i plug it in to charge neither red or green light come on. thanks

On that sweeper battery web page, the replacement is $15 or 17 bucks depending on the voltage of the sweeper you have. and 5 bucks shipping flat rate. Browsing amazon the cost of a new sweeper is around 65 bucks. Choose your own adventure! :)

Be careful order the correct battery. I didn't realized i had the wrong battery until I tried to install it in the plastic mount.

This product is a complete garbage. It only ran for 10 minutes the most and had to be charged for almost 24 hours prior its use for another 10 minutes. After a while it was abandoned and left in the closet until recently during a cleanout. We decided to give it another try, well that did not go so well, batteries were obviously dead and had to be charged. After a day of charge it only ran for less then 15 seconds before it shut off due to depleted batteries. Looked online for a replacement batteries and for the price of around $20 and the hassle of taking it apart to replace it (which it did not looked too easy), I said to have it thrown out as it did not worth to have money spent on it and only get less than 10 minutes of use out of it.

And that's the problem with cheap electronics like this. Easier to throw away and rot in a landfill somewhere rather than replace it and recycle the dead batteries.

If you want a better cheap sick vac just get a Dirt Devil or Eureka. They're corded but will last longer than this.
