G'Day Mike. Matey I can tell you that if I had owned a 300Tdi, I'd of "FIXED" that air filter bracket by cutting it right where there is space near the head, get another one of the same bracket and cut that one so they over lap each other and then bolt to two of them together with SS bolts/nuts. This way I could always take the whole dam bracket off to flip it over to get those bloody mounts off.

You have to wonder what genius came up with the idea of using the head bolts to hold that bracket on. How many people have forgotten about the bracket when changing a head gasket as well? 😂

Yes, I have used them as well but the ones I have are 3/8 UNF and there’s not a lot of room for the nut

Does it make a difference if the filter clamp goes on the wrong way... errr yes it does, it means you have to nibble out a bit of the hood sound deadening to clear the over-clip gismos...... don't ask how I might know!

Sound deadening - what is that? Hardly see any here - mice get into them! Lol!

Hi you mention using tread guard on the thread. What sort do you recommend? Is this the same as anti seize grease? Thanks great channel.

I use an aluminium based anti seize for low temperature work

Yes I edited out the number of times I dropped the flipping nuts! Ratchet spanner is ideal for this job!

So, here's a wacky thought.... I wonder if it'd be possible to fill up the bores with oil and then use a hydraulic pump to pressurise the bores, via the injector holes, and push the heater plugs out from inside? I'm thinking it'd be all about surface area (as well as having a pump with sufficient capacity to beat whatever amount of oil was leaking past the rings). If pump is working at 3,500psi then you'd be applying 35,000lbs to the piston (~10in² surface area) while you'd only be applying 170lbs to the tip of the heater plug (~1/20in² surface area). Honestly, I doubt it'd work but if you had all the bits lying around to rig it up, it might be worth a go. On the up-side, if (by some miracle) it DID work, it'd be a lot simpler than drilling them out.

My 300tdi Air cleaner has had a ZipTie holding the 1 broken rubber together for at least 5 years. I took one look at what the boffins from LRs let's be C@nt$ department had done there & said I'm not replacing it until another rubber goes.

Hey Mike did you find out the oil coming through the breather... I have the same problem... It can clog up the intercooler washed mine and it showed some change in power... But still oil comes through the air inlet
