I personally would have replaced that starter ring gear as they are prone to cracking and also installed the transmission thermostat valve kit. I did on my 2018 silverado. It pretty much runs around 145 degrees now. Itleats the fluid run to the cooler ALL of the time.

Will definitely do the thermostat soon, thanks for the heads up.

Got a 2015 sierra with 283000, rebuilt tranny. I got the same shudder so im definitely copping one of the billet converters and possibly a mew 6l80e. I dont mind spending the money as long as I can prolong the life of my truck. Im learning so much and its addicting. Thanks for the video

It definitely can be addicting. I found this video from my looking up changing my valve body due to having the shutters and looming P0796 code. Discovered A LOT of metal shavings and considering changing the torque converter since I heard it’s the cause of the shavings. Now can I do it alone is the question 😂

The torque converter clutch or TCC is programmed from the factory to never completely lock up which is what causes the TCC to prematurely wear out and put all that friction material into the rest of the transmission and clog things up and destroy the pump and then cause the rest of the troubles. Replace the torque converter and make sure you reprogram the transmission so it either locks up fully or not at all. Most will like if it still locks in 5th and 6th gears but for myself I recommend no lockup in any gear. Add a transmission cooler and remove transmission thermostat. Best of luck. Great video, fun to watch.

I'll definitely look into that, thanks for the input!

Had my 6L80 tranny rebuild about 3 months ago. Upgraded to heavy duty flex plate and Billet torque converter since I pull an RV. Not that much weight on the RV but still wanted more strength on torque converter

👍 Great Video! Please Read: If you haven't already, you NEED to upgrade your thermostat valve with new internals from TransGo, Superior Technologies, or GM. That cooler valve needs to be opening way before 195 degrees. This was a fault GM made and they've admitted it to the point of posting a service bulletin to upgrade this part.... of course they didn't recall ir, so unfortunately we have to pay for their mistake by purchasing these new parts and our transmission replacements. Good luck!

Truck is in the shop now getting the converter replaced and GM recommended upgrading the thermostat valve as well to open earlier.
@manoweb12 ай бұрын
@@busteddonutface8796 what converter are you getting?
@busteddonutface87962 ай бұрын
@manoweb1 I'm not sure, whichever one GM recommends and also my vehicle warranty approved since that's who is covering the cost. I will be able to find out once I pick up the truck and can let you know. Crappy part is my truck was just in the shop last week to get the vacuum booster replaced.
@busteddonutface8796Ай бұрын
@manoweb1 just got the truck back looks like they replaced the converter with a remanufactured one part # 19435460 along with the upgraded thermostat valve part # 85585333. Also dropped then pan and inspected the fluid, didn't notice any metal debris and everything looked fine. Drives like normal now but will continue to monitor temps the next few days.

100% agree. My 6L80 went 248k miles on original tranny, finally torque converter broke.
@Malinois1101Ай бұрын
Nice work, regarding the thermostat theres also the option of flipping the thermostat upside down, it lets the fluid move free, will drop the temp 20 degrees or so

What did the trans pan look like? Maybe i missed it in the video. Sounds like im replacing mine at the same point you guys did and was wondering what to expect in the pan / magnet and how much metal i can possibly get away with.
@rosstrittler26 күн бұрын
It was in the video. We dumped some of the oil through a paper towel and didn't collect any metal. I think if you do see metal it might be a good idea to just replace the entire transmission.

Great video. It was a lot of work but looks to be a successful swap of the torque convertor. I'm needing to change mine out, I'm just wondering if you were happy with the torque converter you purchased so far?

Thank you. The torque converter we got is still working great and has always shifted smoothly.

I have a 2019 1500 LD silverado 4x4 5.3 bro i just bought this truck last july, I still owen like $27k on it and the fucking torque converter is slipping, my rpms started spiking on cruise control up like 3-400 rpms randomly on a flat road, and it kept doing it, yesterday I was going to pull it around back to my garage, and it was lunching hard when i was taking off, like ten times it did lug lug lug lug and i was like oh shit its getting ready to grenade the trans lol. but i'm pissed, i bought it at 60k miles, it has 98k on it now i been driving a lot, but still my old F150, the torque converter didn't go out until 260k miles lol, i did that one myself but it was a 2wd, this truck is a 4x4 i never done a 4x4 there looks like a lot more shit to take off, and it looks like its gonna be heavy as fuck i got the truck parked, i'm not gonna keep driving it because honestly i cant afford an entire transmission right now, I'm debating if i want to tackle this myself or if I want to pay a shop to do it. I should have got that extended warranty they were pushin haha
@imbrandon16Ай бұрын
damn how long did this shit take you guys it looks like if i do it i'll have to take a week off work lol

I would do it yourself if you have the time.

My 2018 silverado had 23K on it when I bought it. I bought the extended 4 years 60K mile warranty on top of the original 3 years 36K from the factory. Got 85K on it now. Have been doing the fluud and filter changes on it. BTW : my transfer case takes a "special fluid" and is not Dexron 5. Front and rear differentials take a different gear lube.
