My 2003 F350, 6.0 Powerstroke Diesel sounds like there's a bird trapped under the hood. Only been this way for 2 years - Let's fix it (finally).

I never use old parts. I would have waited for the right parts. I don't like doing it twice. Good video, Thank you

Yeah, that's a good strategy for sure. So far I've dodged the bullet. It's been 3 years and several miles and it's doing well.

Just put a new alternator on mine today. 177k . Haven’t had a tensioner failure yet . I took that front cowling off my air cleaner . Kept clogging with snow and noticed quicker spool up. Good vid !
@ProjectTimeGarage
@ProjectTimeGarage 3 жыл бұрын
Quicker spool huh? Guess I'll remove mine too. One thing the 6.0 lacks is a quick spool-up.
@jeffpalmer5502
@jeffpalmer5502 3 жыл бұрын
@@ProjectTimeGarage yeah I took mine off right after the snow clog ,fairly easy to put back on , but the intake tube goes up against a little tiny hole so I drilled some more holes there ,my air cleaners been open face ever since with no issues.

I don’t know why mine has two alternators which means double the tensioners. Geez. Great video. Thanks.

Dual alternators was a thing, especially with the ambulance package. Best thing is you have all the charging.

With a ratcheting end wrench, you can sneak that out without removing the fan shroud, just need to take the battery out.

I didn't see a kickstand on the new tensioner, either. You could have just as easily, just bought some American made replacement bearings for your tensioner. A lesson I've learned is if you have another vehicle to drive, always take the defective part with you when you go to pick up a replacement part. It's a lot easier to compare parts on the auto parts guy's counter than on your workbench 10 miles away and then, make another trip.
@ProjectTimeGarage
@ProjectTimeGarage 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I actually broke my own rule on that one. I generally buy Motorcraft stuff for these trucks. In this case, I had purchased the tensioner over a year prior to making this video and it bit me big time. You're 100% right, though, I would have been easy to just source a couple of Timken or BCA bearings and been done with it!

so here is a question for you, i have that chirping noise coming from my motor and thought it was a pully but to be sure i removed the belt and it was still there so after doing some listening the chirping is coming from under the driver side valve cover it seems!! have you ever encountered this type of issue before and if so what did you find was the issue please?? also where are you located?? thanks

Do some research on 6.0 lifter failure. That sounds exactly like what you're describing to me. If that's the case I would not drive it until it's fixed. When the lifter seizes, it will send metal through everything. You're most likely looking an an engine at that point. If you catch it early, you can just do lifters and push rods. I would take it to someone who does a lot of 6.0 stuff. My recommendation is Bill Hewitt at Powerstroke Specialty just outside Atlanta, GA.

My 6.0 had the same squeak. Thought it was the belt or belt tensioner. Turns out it was my water pump leaking on the belt and causing it to squeak. Because the squeak will go away about 2 minutes into driving. If it was the belt tensioner then it wouldn’t go away and continue as you drive along
@ProjectTimeGarage
@ProjectTimeGarage 3 жыл бұрын
It had a Motorcraft water pump about a year ago. Doing this tensioner did fix it. I've put about 3500 miles on it since this video was filmed.

How would I know if my belt pulley tensioner is working properly. My vt365 engine pulley tensioner jumps a little up down while engine is running. I don't hear any squeaks though. Was wondering if that means it's normal or I shouldn't see any movement. Thank you
@ProjectTimeGarage

Question: if you’re going to replace the belt and tensioner, could I simply just cut the serpentine belt off instead of messing with the clip
@ProjectTimeGarage

Absolutely. I've done it too many times to count. Just make sure you know the belt routing before you cut it.
