You guys cover just about everything on servicing and replacing worn out parts on GM OBS trucks. I have a 93 GMC K1500 and am doing a lot of overdue maintenance, repairs and upgrades. Although I am a retired auto mechanic and OEM technical training course developer and trainer, I still like to see how others do things and you ALWAYS find something new and/or improved. I like how you take your time and cover pretty much everything. However, a few suggestions: Get yourself a 1/4" and a 1/2" cordless ratchet and make your life easier. Also, a square transmission drain pan adapter keeps 99% of the trans fluid off of you and the ground. Take care and keep up the good work.

For Moroso Perm-align gaskets the instructions clearly state - *Perm-align gaskets are only recommended for use with flat rail cast aluminum or billet rail transmission pans. *Perm-align gaskets are not recommended for use with stamped transmission pans.

Bro ... your old seal for the transmission filter tube came out way easier than mine, which was probably original My seal was so old and hardened, it did NOT come out in one piece, but broke apart into several small pieces. I had to fight it for like 45 minutes with various picks and screwdrivers, and be very careful to leave no pieces behind. The next replacement should go a lot easier.

My 97 C1500 has a big spot building up on the cement more towards the transmission than the engine. You think it's probably the gasket then? My trucks got 177,000 miles by the way and shifts fine. I was thinking about changing the fluid but I'm not sure if it might start slipping if I do that. Scotty Kilmer always says that will happen.

You said four and a half quarts of transmission fluid OMG I have a 1992 GMC Safari and according to O'Reilly it says 11.2 quarts and for some reason I have a brand new filter and a brand new gasket on my transmission right now and it has spewed at least a quart of oil out of it I tightened it up twice and it pretty much can't go any further I don't know what to do

@ukraineupdates93803 жыл бұрын
@@WiKiTWoNKa You got it right now 5 for pan drop and 11 for full flush. In the future check your fluid on the dipstick after doing anything with one, engine oil, tranny fluid and power steering fluid, before driving. For transmission fluid you check it with it running in park. 6 quarts extra is a lot how did your transmission hold up? hope you didn't drive too far like that.
@WiKiTWoNKa3 жыл бұрын
@@ukraineupdates9380 yes I know how to do all those things like checking the transmission fluid while it's idling in park it's just that the guy at O'Reilly's told me it needed 11.2 quarts and I never told him I was going to flush it all I said was I was going to change the transmission pan gasket and filter and nothing more nothing less so I don't know where in the world he got that from made me waste money and make a mess and hopefully not mess up anything on the van but now it makes me feel like I need to drain everything back out and start all over again with a new gasket and waste more money. I probably would have been better at all Google searching to find out the answer but I didn't realize until after I put anything in and then all of that mess happened then I googled it and that's what I found out 5 quarts was all I needed 🙄

Big mistake those gaskets suck , it will compress and not seal guranteed. You should just use the cork ones, the reason why they work better. Is simple , it expands as the fluid penetrates ... Cork has always worked for at applications just fine. I think you forget, that the pan you pulled off that tranny has been on there pretty much leak free for decades.
