Just a suggestion, The alternator on this model of Grand Marquis and Crown Vic are simple to remove and only takes about 5 min.Removing it will give you more room to work on the water pump.

Someone put silicone on the pump. This is crazy. We had to fight with the pump for a few hours before the silicone came loose.

@bah53 Hey thanks for the reply. I'm just going to replace the whole compressor eventually. I'll just have to hope it doesn't shred my belt when I'm on my way to work lol

How much coolant does that car hold?
@bah5314 жыл бұрын
@03SilverMustangGT I wouldn't say that its dangerous to drive with bad compressor bearings, the worst thing I can think of happening is the compressor completely locking up and shredding your belt. I have no idea how much of a pain they are to change because I haven't done it on this one.

question.. the hose that is connected behind my water pump is leaking, is water pump bad or is it the hose? it leaks coolant and causes my car to overheat, I currently have a 2002 grand marquis

I’m having the same problem

@@dangelolove1914 hey I had to get my intake manifold gasket replaced it’s basically taking the engine apart and fixing it, it ended up costing me a lot of money around 600
@CoolasIce214 жыл бұрын
Dang. So the water pump doesn't use a gasket, just the O ring. I've never seen that before.

I have the same problem with my Grand Marquis, same year as yours. Is it unsafe to drive with bad ac compressor bearings? And was it a pain to change the compressor?

@imjustpassinthru There is no gasket like a normal water pump. It is actually a big o-ring that should come with the new puimp.

@CARLOSMENCIAS If you just want to figure out how to fix your car then I would say get a Haynes or Chiltons repair manual or better yet a factory service manual for your car. If you want to learn about how cars work in general I would suggest getting Automotive Service by Tim Gilles. It explains how pretty much all vehicle systems work and has a ton of pictures.

Excellent video. Excellent photography. You are very orginized. But I'm wondering about the water pump gasket. Did I miss that part? I've got a 4.6 liter with 115,000 miles on it and I'm not sure if the water pump has ever been replaced. It's not making noise or leaking, but I'm thinking of replacing it anyway as preventive maintenance. ... Thanks again.
@rogersgoins10 жыл бұрын
do you have any hoess that goes to the water pump
@bah5310 жыл бұрын
No it doesn't look like this one had any hoses. It's been a while since we've had this car so I don't remember too much about it.
