1994-2002 The 2nd Gen ram is getting old. The last model year is almost 20 years old at this point. Speakers and wiring don't last forever. Today we install a massive upgrade to the original Infinity system.

Cool project. One thing I noticed. Definitely replace those battery cables. Another minor upgrade is upgrade the alternator to higher amperage and that can allow you to install a power inverter. Inverters are nice to bring AC power in. And if can get WiFi into the cab your passenger can use a pc or allow multiple hookups for phone charger’s etc.

I replaced the cables already. They were sooooo bad. But I haven’t even thought of doing an upgraded alternator. I will look into it. That would make for an awesome set up like you were saying.

it really doesn't matter where the sub is located, bass is omnidirectional from what I've learned, distance from your ears is the only part that counts,, not necessarily what direction it's in or where it's at. that's one less headache anyone should have to worry about. I've considered using 2 thin strips of Velcro stitched to the center of the rear seat, to locate mine, and still be moveable with ease in case I need the entire seat, thankfully our RAMS have HUGE rear seats, at least my Gen 2 does, so that's cake to move around. I made a quick cheap 1.5" support out of 1 inch L brackets, painted to match, for it to face downwards, it sounds exactly the same thanks to how subs work, and no chance of damaging the woofer. it's actually used as an armrest for anyone in the rear oO oh and a small pad attached to the top for comfort, can hardly even tell what it is lol. mine's only 8' tho, so that's a little easier, it sounds like a 12 inch the way it hits, but that due to Boston acoustics design lab genius, not mine hehe.

You are correct in stating that base is omnidirectional below a certain frequency. However, placement can and does effect the subs sound in the vehicle. I am partial to a reflected non-direct sound. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@MarvinParnell
@MarvinParnell 3 жыл бұрын
@@TenzaMotorsports Absolutely, deep bass especially below 80Hz is very sensitive to reflectivity. This is a good thing though as you can get better sound from smaller subs if you utilize this fact.

have any problems with the original infinity system not functioning at all? I replaced my head unit but the system sometimes does not work at all, will power on but I get no sound. It will work when it is hot for some reason!
@MarvinParnell
@MarvinParnell 3 жыл бұрын
This is a known issue with the factory speakers and the infinity factory speakers. The flexible wire that is connected to the paper cone part of the speaker has a glue type compound that gets old and brittle and looses connection, when it gets hot it softens up a bit and this can cause it to sometimes make a connection. The only remedy is to replace the speakers. It usually happens to one or two at a time but it has been known to happen to all 4 at the same time.

@MarvinParnell
@MarvinParnell 3 жыл бұрын
@@stdlxe1286 He did the right thing though since he was installing a more powerful amplifier for the system. the factory wires can run pretty hot with "Good" power running through them. the factory infinity amps were only capable of dual 30 watts peak, so they likely only averaged 10-12 watts RMS on a good day to the speakers.

Is the wires for the rear speaker the same gauge. Just different appearance to distinguish the front from the back speakers? What gauge wire did you use? Did the tweeters plug into the front door speakers?
@TenzaMotorsports
@TenzaMotorsports 3 жыл бұрын
They are the same gauge of wire. I had the flat type laying around for so long I decided this would be a perfect opportunity to use them. I mostly did it to keep the front and rear distinct. I’m not sure what gauge they are. It’s just the standard speaker wire gauge. 12 if I had to guess. The tweeters have a cross over that grabs signal from the front speakers.

I have a laramie slt quad cab long bed equipped premium infinity by chrysler amplifier filters 6 speaker with tweeters sound system with the premium infinity by chrysler am fm cd player cassette tape player stereo system and it actually works so I don't want to change the factory headunit, but the amplifier filters crap is been taken out so the tweeters don't work and the front doors work when they want to and the front doors are swapped out from a lower level trim truck and had audio Latina by chrysler speakers with plugs that resemble the gm gbody and obs gmt400 trucks and third Gen f body speaker plugs, and I'm thinking about adding a dual electronics xpr82d amplifier to the factory headunit system to power the front doors and the rear doors through the high level inputs to the amplifier by patching it into the right side rear door speaker.. .any thoughts on this,I have kicker brand cs speakers for the rear doors and cerwin vega hed series speakers for the front doors and plan to wire the tweeters back up...

There was one thing that really bothered me about your video when you said there were so many wires coming through the hall of the dash that the new owner would have a real problem trying to figure out which wire came from where. Why don't you be a nice guy And tag each one of those wires and label them so the new owner won't have to go through all that troubleshooting trying to figure out the mess that you created with a dozen different wires? You already have the wires coming through, why don't you sit down and just make up a label for each one of them so when the new owner pulls the radio out he'll see all the labels on each one of the wires. I'm sure he will thank you 1 million times over rather than to let him deal with that nest of a wire. That's just my opinion and that's what I would do!!

The factory didn’t have unlabeled speaker wires?? So the speakers magically ran on what? I spent 3 days tearing the entire system apart and running wires that are better and won’t fall apart like the oem. But I’m lazy I didn’t label the wire for the next person? Ok.
@alcameron6071
@alcameron6071 7 ай бұрын
@@TenzaMotorsports the factory didn't do it probably because it wasn't cost-effective, and it took too much time. On the other hand you had nothing but time installing it and could've labeled as you went. Yeah, just because factory workers real lazy doesn't mean you have to be. Be a nice guy, label the freaking wires!
