So maintenance is unavoidable. A timing belt is one of those things. The manufacture suggests 105,000 miles then the timing belt is necessary. When these things snap you no longer have a car. The valves are bent and the amount of work that it takes to get all the damage fixed is extreme. Even though it’s a lot of work to change a timing belt, it’s a lot less work than repairing the damage (and there’s a very large peace of mind knowing that the timing belt is fresh and new). I wish manufactures would use chains instead of belts or make the engines non-interference at the very least. This means if the belt breaks the valves don’t hit the top of the pistons. If you’ve got an interference engine it’s not worth the risk not changing the timing belt.
