Solved my rotor issue. On my washer there is a heavy duty magnet which made it require more of a tug to get the rotor off. Most of the work is done. Just waiting 24 hours for the glue to dry. Great video! I really enjoy doing projects, especially when my wife doesn’t think I’m up to it. Many thanks!!!!!

Getting the tub and driveshaft and bearings out is all a roll of the dice. My tub was stuck but I used a piece of 2 X 4 cut to fit inside the drum and the scissor jack from my truck and it came right out. The driveshaft was hard to get out as well but I squirted it with PB Blaster penetrating oil and that helped. Really, taking it all apart was the hardest part.

Holy Moly, Batman. Extremely well presented video. Concise and yet you fully explained every single step. I've got a Bravos XL model to do and will be looking for the alternate 'loosening' of the top that one of your commenters mentioned. The use of the scissors jack was especially ingenious. Thanks, Phil!

Saved me hundreds of dollars! Bought the $54 kit in Amazon instead of the $120 just for the appliance guy to show up plus cost and labor. Took me 4 evenings because I had some differences and additional troubles I'll describe to help the next person: 1. My kid's licking tabs were different and additionally required unscrewing a 1/4" hex from the top of a green hinge on the back so the lid can be pulled forward and then the locking tabs pushed. 2. Same problem where I had to use a car jack and block of wood. 3. The nut on the bottom of the drive shaft was completely seized so I had to destroy it with a grinder. 4. Drive shaft was stuck and wouldn't come out with my 1 lb hammer. Don't waste your time people and just get a 4 lb hammer and it does the job. 5. Couldn't get the new drive shaft in, seemed like it was getting caught on the upper bearing and didn't want to destroy it by hammering it. Splintered my wood block trying to use that to hammer it. Eventually found out my car floor jack's handle fit perfectly over the splines onto the thick flat part, and hammered that instead where it eventually seated itself. 6. Don't forget to hook the drain back up before you run it for the first time! Oops.

Great Video a few call outs when pulling tub out washer I used the scissor jack method from another video. But it still required me to pount with a hammer on the large metal gear for a while don't be to afraid of hitting it hard and use the metal rod from the bearing kit. Lifting the washer up and down a lot requires space I pulled mine into the garage. This project took me about 5 hrs. It would have been less if I was not afraid of breaking tub by hitting gear really hard to get it out. This is the really hard part but cut wood to 22.5 inches and car sizzor jack made it a whole lot easier. The bearing too is a must to use. Clean every part you take out to make machine smell better.. Good luck.

Followed this video and it was great. Only one gotcha. In my case the washer between the sleeve and the bearing on the stattor side wasn’t tight enough in the diameter. Not sure why but after 3 attempts trying to get the shaft through (the washer just jumped around preventing the shaft to go through) we instant glued the washer to the sleeve to prevent that and bingo it worked. The glue held it just long enough to keep everything aligned.

I clicked the amazon link and purchased the, OCTOPUS AP5325033 & AH3503307 W10435274 Bearings Washer Tool Kit. It didn't come with a thrust washer but instead a thrust bearing for the lower tub bearing install. Please note that the upper and lower bearing presses are not labeled, but they are different. The top has a longer press than than bottom. I watched the AppliancePartsPros video to get more information on this repair and it certainly looked like they used the wrong bearing press on top. Only 4-5 threads were showing on the bottom of the press rod. I bent the spacer tube and bottom bearing washer. I couldn't install the drive shaft, so be very careful. I simply used my OEM spacer tube and washer and the drive shaft inserted perfectly. The unit needs to seal overnight so I'll check back in after a few operational checks. Thanks again.

Interesting. Apparently this is an issue with other folks as well. Someone suggested using a shoestring to get underneath the flange to help pull it out. I did not have any issues with the removal of the wash plate. This is why it's important to have comments. Thanks for commenting and watching the video as well

@PhilCrockett Thanks for the response. I work at an appliance parts store and removing the washplate is a complaint from most service techs. Some use air bags, strings or just break off the washplate and replace it. Personally, I like to keep plenty of different style agitators. Sometimes, you can swap out the washplate style with a full size agitator. I also always put some anti seize on anything I can.

Yo, Phil! You did a FINE job and that was a fine kit but when 'Old Squawky' gives it up it'll be time for Sweetums to go pick one out and get someone to bring it and get the old one. Probably Lowes. That thing sqawked and honked since it was turned on. The seller said it was the seal but I thought a seal barked. Different seal. I guess. Thanks, Buddy! Go fish, do not pass go and do not collect $200.00 and have a Jesus weekend! GBWYall

Thanks for the video! I have a question for you. My bearing is going and getting louder. Now I have a UL (unbalanced load) alarm. Could a bad bearing cause the UL alarm? I'm thinking that's also do to the bearing going but want your opinion on this. Thanks!! Pete

I have no idea, Pete. Diagnosing via texting is not my thing. I would go to a forum and search. I love forums, I've learned a lot from them. As far as the balancing problem, there might be too many variables to consider. I'm not a professional appliance repairman. I only post videos on DIY that I absolutely know how to do. I can't help with diagnosing this. Let me know what you find out, and we can all learn from each other.

yes and no. my washer worked that bottom 1/4 inch hex bolt out. tub then wasn't very secure. as a result I got UL. first thought it was a problem I had a year ago: clothing stuck between tube wall (remove top clip as described in this video and look inside). tis time it was bearings: after the bottom bolt had been gone for an unknown amount of time, the bottom bearing was trashed.

I have the same issue with the top bearing.Do you have any videos on how you made the tool to remove the top bearing?
@PhilCrockett
@PhilCrockett Жыл бұрын
The tool I made was a last minute decision. Most people will not have this problem. However, you can actually purchase a bearing puller on the Internet. Indeed, this is a very difficult situation. The tool I made was constructed from a garage door spring ring and a bolt, a piece of pipe, and a nut. It's complicated.

Hi Phil, again. I got my parts today and started in replacing the bearings. I removed the basket and discovered there is trapped water inside of it. Have know idea how it got in there but that has to be a problem. Wondering what your thought is on that. Yes, the bearings are shot but I'm thinking the trapped water in the basket could be causing the UL (unbalanced load) alarm. I could drill holes and get it out and maybe fill the holes with silicone but maybe it will just go back in. Funny thing is no matter how I tip and hold the basket the water doesn't drip out anywhere. Looking for some advice. But the video you have here rocks and is the ticket for the bearings. Thanks so much. Maybe time to get a new basket?

my drum has water in it too. Not much but it sloshes around. It's been that way for years and doesn't seem to affect the performance. It is weird. I actually wondered if it came that way. Must be a little leak. I figure you could drill a little hole in plastic and drain it then patch it up with epoxy seal. But I figure water will get back in. Let it ride.
