I have been trying to apply for graduate schemes since Sep. Nothing went well so far and for one second, I feel like I might give up. It might be a bit selfish, but seeing you looking for jobs at the same time does encourage me a lot!! Hope that both of us can get an ideal job very soon in 2018!

My biggest advice to anyone watching these vlogs is do not resign until you have secured the role you want. If you don't absolutely hate where you work, it's better to be in work and not be stagnant.

Enjoy your new coat. It will be interesting to hear more about it based on your experience with it. I could probably benefit from getting a smaller and warmer winter coat. I wouldn’t want to spend a lot, but the right performance characteristics coupled with durability may justify a higher price. Continued good wishes on the job search. I enjoy following your progress.

Hello! I'm a UX Designer in London. It's really interesting watching your story as I've been in your shoes. Be selective about which recruiters you deal with. Most of them are crap and know nothing about the roles they are headhunting for. Ask some decent Devs you know for recommendations. P.s. Revolut, Trussle and Skyscanner would be interesting to work for. Gusto would be too similar to Graze and they got too many direct competitors. What about working agency-side? Or going rogue and contracting?

I like following You on this path. You consider every aspect of the offer, of what do You expect and what do You have to offer! Should I ever be looking for a job again, this is going to be my well of wisdom :D Godd luck Jake!
@css8676 жыл бұрын
Regarding your Norway clothing (from a Norwegian). You are slender, and so am I. I wear a Canada Goose expedition, which keeps me warm enough. Some guys I know in Oslo wore a jacket that thin throughout the entire winter with out being cold, but they are constantly very warm and bigger than me. That jacket is risky. I recommend you to get a scarf, winter shoes, winter hat and gloves. Best Regards, dying Norwegian with a really bad cold who is never going outside again without wool stockings

I graduated CS last year, and I just found a job recently and I could actually relate to this, the stress of preparing for interviews and travelling to their offices is just draining. I live outside London and so I had to travel to London many times just to get rejected the following day. I might try to replicate the transition on 1:39 once the lockdown is over. 😅

it's not that bad though from London to Paris with the eurostar train from St. Pancras in London to Gare du Nord in Paris, only takes 2.5 hours, it's not that bad if u think about it. I wouldn't mind living in London working in Paris everyday, nice commute beautiful scenery get to see the beautiful sights of Paris, but that's just me.

Gotta love recruiters - we're really picky and fantastically successful, you'd be incredibly fortunate to stare at our screen and fix stuff. We do bagels, yoga and nice. Expect incredibly long hours while you get us out a hole we've dug. Someone brings ice cream round Fridays.

I agree on the with the point on PHP - wages also tend to be lower. Java, C# or Python corner virtually 100% of the job market. I'm also going to step right out of line here and suggest working for a large company. I worked for small companies before and while the experience was extremely valuable, the training budget, leadership and travel opportunities at large companies are far better. There are also lots of groups to join. It's also worth mentioning culture can vary from team to team across big firms. Again, I'm sure you'll make the right choice Jake - best of luck bud.

Thank you. I think you're right about working for a large company-I value a lot of the things they provide.

I always laughed from companies that write about coffee, tea and cakes in benefits. I already worked at such company, I always saw tea and coffee in a kitchen, but cakes - not always ) 1 pack of tea costs 1.5$, in 1 month I will drink 3 packs - maximum. 4.5$ WOOOOOW ! What a cool benefit lol

Maybe you're expecting too much information in the early stages. This is info you would get at first interviews. Perhaps start applying for some of the jobs which look okay, then weeding them down during the first round of interviews. The longer you stay unemployed, the worse your chances of a good position will be, and the less valuable your degree will become. Experience counts for a lot. If you speak french, why not try some of the Paris jobs. The international networking would be great, and it would also look good on your CV.

Brexit. Brexit is what's making companies in Paris expect people who live in London to go and work for them... And yes, as an EU citizen moving to another EU country (especially with a job offer!) is quite easy.

Hey Jake what's your opinion on AdWords and SEO. I'm learning the stuff on my own and was wondering about the scope of these jobs for a remote position in the UK
@elliesmales62256 жыл бұрын
Hi Jake, Gay myself I often wonder if it is a good thing when filling out a companies equal opportunities form, to select my sexual orientation or just select 'straight?' I am worried that an employer will not favor my application because of my sexual orientation but then I also want to feel like i am being truthful on the form. What are your thoughts on this matter? Ellie
@Nico20006 жыл бұрын
Ellie Smales tell the truth! You do not want to work in a place where you are not accepted for what you are. Rather be unemployed then
@ajohnson27066 жыл бұрын
I don't know about private companies but for government jobs in the UK the information such as race, gender, orientation etc. is removed from applications before anyone who can make hiring decisions sees it and is purely used for anonymous tracking of company statistics for determining systematic discrimination etc. Anyway, if a company would refuse to hire you based on your sexual orientation it's probably not a company you'd want to work for.
@TranslatorTuber6 жыл бұрын
Put 'Prefer not to say'. How is it any of their goddamn business??
