Genki is the best gorilla mum! I, too, thank her for giving the world Gentaro and Kintaro. We know Genki conceives in the winter, so perhaps it is possible, as the weather turns cold and the gorillas spend more time indoors. But, I want Genki's health to be a priority over her having another baby. It would be good for Kintaro to have experience with a baby gorilla. But, I'll trust the keepers to know best, and not put Genki's health at risk. Thank you, GorillaLife, for all the wonderful information!

You are right about Genki’s health being the priority. It would be great if she were a few years younger, wouldn’t it? I’m recalling how sick Momoko became after delivering Sumomo at age 39, however she is fine now, and Sumomo is thriving. This is real dilemma… ❤ 🦍

I do not doubt she would benefit for being a mother again.. it's what she does in life... But we have to think about her health first above all else...hopefully the zoo realizes this and not just to hope for a baby for money draws, because that would a shame, and put her health on the line.

I agree that Genki's health should be the main priority. Dental abscesses are excruciatingly painful and it would be unfair for her to suffer that pain while pregnant. Also, Genki is no longer a young female and maybe she's quite happy with her two sons, especially as little Kintaro still looks to her for comfort at times and she seems to enjoy interacting with him. It would be a tragedy if she gave birth and for whatever reason rejected the baby, as you say there are no surrogate mothers who could take over. At the end of the day no doubt mother nature will take it's course but I just want Genki to be safe and healthy. She's a wonderful mother and should be treasured accordingly. ❤

My personal feeling hasn't changed... That she should NOT have more... Health and space are the 2 main reasons... Certainly, they would have to have Gentaro out of there before any births. Will the teeth she has remaining be able to hold up to the constant eating to provide milk for x amount of months? What about cavities and antibiotics during pregnancy? Thats a big gamble for both.....It's not so much about age as it is health... What do others think?

Thinking about Genki's health and welfare is paramount in my way of thinking also! There are just too many negatives that stack up: dental problems, two active older offspring that 'mess' with their mother from time-to-time, small enclosure with no private space that she could take the little one to get out of the prying eyes of the public on occasion. Thanks for the update, especially on Genki's teeth. This really needs to be resolved first. It would be nice to expand the inside habitat which seems small for 3 adults and one growing child.

Me encanta como los cuidan, Genki ya tuvo dos hijos y tuvieron ayuda de los veterinarios de los embarazos tiene problema de descalcificación en los dientes y de eso se fue mucho y no es tan joven me parece en mi humilde opinión no debería tener más hijos tengo miedo que le pasé algo irreparable y es algo muy especial como madre yo creo que es muy difícil que puedan competir con ella como madre pero también hay que cuidarla mucho yo la amo

I remember Genki was so stressed out because Gentaro was always trying to steal the baby and he'd get jealous and hit Genki a lot. She is older now and might not be able to take the stress like before

Thank you for the updates and thoughts, Gorilla life. I agree it does work against her that she did not go into heat until six years had passed, longer than most gorillas, and that she had difficulty getting pregnant and miscarried before Momo. Her cavities may not turn into abscesses, though. We can hope. Thank you for explaining why they could not just pull all the rotten teeth. Also, I guess she is not on birth control and with Gentaro and a maturing Kintaro this could be a potential problem too. So perhaps it is just as well that she has delayed estrus and by then the boys hopefully will be somewhere nice together and Momo and she may have some more good luck. Nature can surprise us all. I guess it isn't feasible to give her a good night treat of an apple, or other food that naturally cleans her teeth at night. Thanks again.

5:02 Well if Genki does conceive at this point, I think we will all be surprised 😌. Nevertheless she has always been an excellent mother so I don't worry because aside from her teeth she appears to be in rather good health, and has had no major medical problems. I am however so glad to hear that Genki has had more 🦷 dental work done, as this is an important top priority for her maintaining good health.

I agree! She looks like she is feeling very well! I think she would love a baby. It seems like Momoko is done having kids. And Haoko is very persistent whether she wants to or not. I don’t think Momo would pursue Genki when she reaches that point. She chases Momo around and gives him those looks because she wants to mate.

@@MySkinnydip I believe as a precaution Momoko has been put on birth control since she had difficulty with severe anemia after having Sumomo, and is now on medication managed care. This last birth took a lot out of her, and she's had 6 pregnancies in total. She's just getting on up there in age, so I think no more babies for her. 🤣 Meanwhile we're all aware that Haoko is always ready to mate. That's how he got his 4 beautiful children. I think they should put Ai with Haoko since she won't mate with Shabani. Haoko is a good dad and loves his children. Momotaro needs to go counsel with Haoko regarding his mating technique. 🤔 I'm not sure what is going on with Momo, whether he forgot how to mate, or is just being really coy, and wants to do the "business" in private. The latter is a high possibility 🤷. Momo is such a unique shy big 🦍 guy, always running from Genki, 😆 which is so funny to watch.

Any time someone gets put under anesthesia, there's a danger. That's why they can't continue putting Genki under to treat all of her teeth. Something not being addressed, though- yes, visitors create stressors, which can impact multiple body issues, not just estrus. However, Gentaro and now Kintaro are hitting her a lot, which can also be a stressor.

It's clear from Genki's response that Momotaro isn't mating with her; that and the fact he has times where he has standing orgasms, with no contact from Genki. Unfortunately he really has no idea how to execute properly 100% of the time.

I agree that less human viewing could encourage mating. It always seemed to me that Momotaro seemed hesitant to approach Genki because I think he would prefer space from his sons and humans. The visitors are so loud. I think even if the glass is considered sound proof the gorillas are still affected by the visitors.

All Genki wants to do is eat. And I seriously question if Mono didn't just get lucky twice!😆. Genius has been waiting to procreate and Mono has climbed onto her HEAD! She just stares at him all tense. As he runs away he will always try and slap her. Very weird dynamics compared to other troops.

Genki getting pregnant is when her estrus returns, and that is up in the air. Genki didn't conceive with the mate (Mac, Momotaro dad) she had in another zoo. After she gave birth to Gentaro, her estrus didn't return until he was 6 years old. She is getting up there in age, and she has a limited time before she cannot conceive. Momoko (Momotaro Mom), conceived Sumomo after she turned 39. Let's hope she has at least one more baby.

Yes, there is but it we can’t get a response in many cases. As for myself, I have contact information of the zoo officials. Even so, I am just a fan and have no power to change. It will work well if many viewers make request to the zoo via phone calls or emails. Phone calls are the best.

While human voices are an irritation, sadly, without humans there, there be no money to support the zoo. Some people just do not respect a captive animals situation ....I see it so much from every zoo I've been to, being a photographer I go to a lot. It's not just the children, it's the teens and adults. They are obviously not as interested in a zoo's reason for conservation as they are just getting the kids out of the house. Perhaps setting up the barriers again would help, take a few steps back from the windows.

Okay, while they had Genki under to pull only 1 cavity (why only 1 of she has more) they should have created an opening on the other cavities so there is a way for infection to drain…if infection would occur with a drainage area for fluids. They should have extracted all while they had her under. And why couldn’t she get pregnant while on abx? That’s silly. If they had her on steroids for inflammation as well, I successfully took steroids (as an asthmatic) with all 4 of my pregnancies since it would have been more detrimental for me to know get proper oxygen to my babies than to take a steroid, which they give to preterm infants or to moms expected to go into labor and deliver preterm for the babies lungs.

I am not a vet but my guess is that the antibiotics kill her good gut flora. Hence the diarrhea she had while on them in the past. I know this happens to horses and a gorilla's intestinal system is way more complicated.

Not to mention the infections she can get when mating.We always culture our mares before breeding to make sure they have no infections such as e coli that will hinder pregnancy.

Я надеюсь, что зоопарк не позволит родить нового ребенка. Генки - нездоровая горилла, она уже немолодая и у нее плохо продуцируется молоко. Есть пример Момоко, которая тоже немолодая самка. Она и ребенок едва не умерли во время родов и долго лечились. И сейчас Момоко плохо себя чувствует. Кроме этого, нет свободных помещений для Гентаро, который уже взрослый и вынужден жить вместе с родителями. В Японии не созданы условия для разведения горилл. Все семьи живут вместе: взрослые дети и родители. Их некуда переселять. Они дерутся, спариваются друг с другом. Это неправильно.

Apart from humans, it’s it easy to pull a tooth at a time. Because she needs to be treated with the general anesthesia each time. Implanting a tooth is impossible. Instead, the zoo will give steamed food to her if she loses most of her teeth. As much as she can, it’s a better choice to for her to chew her food herself.

なかなか難しい問題ですね。 時間との勝負です。 動物園は、40歳までが限界とは考えてるようです。 つまり、39歳までに妊娠するかどうかです。 しかし、ゲンキの発情期は全く戻っていません。 モモタロウがゲンキにマウントすることはありますが、交尾はしてないでしょう。 ps ゴリラライフ チャンネルでは交尾シーン、交尾に似たシーンは、女性の視聴者で見たくない方が多いので配信してません。 また、過去に配信した交尾シーン動画や交尾シーンに似た動画は全て削除してます。 ご了承ください。

Not true, female gorillas want sex all the time just like males in fact i believe Genki wants it more often than Momo and even if Genki is in heat she's not the problem. Momo nvr learned how to mate if so they would have a ton more kids. He might act like hes maring but he nvr really does!! Look at the Haoko troop, Toto is always willing to give it up to Haoko. And shes not even able to give birth. By the way Genkis estrus cycle typically runs in February and March
