There was a Supreme Court decision that places a caveat on that (and many other) laws: Congress must have a "legitimate legislative interest" in order to compel production. In this case, they have more than enough to satisfy that requirement, but the (lawless and non-Constitutional) Administration can still challenge that in court.

We the consumers end up paying more for the imported products to cover the cost of the tariffs. Trump's tariffs are costing more than what is being collected because of bailouts to Farmers. All tariffs do is raise costs for consumers. Some where along the line Trump has to be benefitting from this trade war or he wouldn't continue on with it.

The law is extremely clear on this www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/26/6103 It can be done by any of the committee's described under 6103(f) Disclosure to Committees of Congress. It's made even more clear under the next section 6103(g) Disclosure to President and Certain Other Persons where subsection (1)(D) explicitly states that the President's request must includeu "the specific reason why the inspection or disclosure is requested." which is not anywhere under the Congressional section except for 6103(f)(3) Other Committees. Now, they are right in that disclosing that information publicly would be rather difficult. Each section under 6103(f) requires the disclosures to the specific congressional committees/people be made in closed executive sessions *unless such taxpayer otherwise consents in writing to such disclosure.*

Thanks Steve... there is a lot of evidence to support a RICO prosecution, the problem is the way the statutes are construed, the only way to prosecute is with the Attorney-General's consent. This is a major flaw in our system, which could be fixed with legislation, but of course with a presidential veto we'd need 2/3 support in EACH house, which is greater than the requirement for expulsion (50%+1 in House, 2/3 in Senate). In the current Senate, if everyone votes then 2/3 means 20 Republicans and we probably only have 3 or 4 at this moment. Meanwhile the latest polling shows exactly 60% of voters answering "yes" or "maybe" to the question "Should the president be impeached?" and 51% of _men_ now support the impeachment inquiry in the House. So that's the disconnect in our system now. If states in the Senate had a proportional weighting applied to their two votes each, there would be a huge margin in favor of Senate conviction and expulsion, even with the current 100 Senators we have. And of course only 1/3 of them had to stand for election in 2018. If it had been all of them, this would already be over.

But... they can't so much as prosecute him for disturbing the peace without the AG's permission. They can bring an indictment and they'll immediately be fired for cause and replaced with someone who will rescind the indictment. By they i mean the U.S. Attorneys in the relevant districts. This is all fallout from the trashing of the Independent Counsel Act in the wake of Clinton/Monica/Whitewater. The House could pass leglislation right now, taking the decision out of the AG's hands and placing it where it belongs: entirely with the U.S. Attorneys. But even if this managed to pass the Senate, there aren't the votes to override a veto. That's what i was getting at with my previous comment.
