Dear Cactus Caffeine. Just thought I would say thankyou for your efforts and excellent videos. I am a beginner with cacti and your videos are a great reference. Everything I have tried from your videos has worked. I started growing Cacti and Succulents as I really do not have much garden space. Thankyou.

I would recommend planting that aloe right into the ground. I mean its big enough and it will grow faster in the ground.

Hi Ana, thanks for the video. I have one as well it does grow bigger than the other colorful aloes but it is not a tree aloe. It will pup and the growth habit on this aloe is like the aloe arborescens, you can easily pull off the pups and replant them. I just recently planted mine in the ground because I want it to grow bigger, and that color when it stresses is amazing. have a great day.
@CactusCaffeine
@CactusCaffeine Жыл бұрын
Ah, like Aloe arborescens! That gives me an idea now. Good to know that it will eventually produce pups. I can always restart with the pups to keep my aloe at a manageable size. Yours sounds very promising in the ground. I think it will look good as a clump, too! Thanks for sharing your knowledge about this Aloe! 👍🏼☺️

Hi Anna , My name is Carolyn and I live in central Mississippi. I love your program . I also collect cactus and aloes . I have a swordfish aloe about the size of yours that’s also in bloom now and mine has not produced offsets either . The swordfish is my favorite of all my aloes . I hope we do eventually get some offsets 😊

I changed my name again 😅 because I finally started making videos of my collection (in spanish). I started with my Aloes 🙈 and then with the Aloe hybrids that I have created. For now, Purple Haze x castilloniae is the best cross I made.

I have had two of the Swordfish Aloes for just over two years. They are in two different large/wide arrangement planters with several other types of succulents. I am surprised how much they have grown but they have not over taken the planter by any means…yet. Mine were about four inches in height when I first got them and I would say that they are more like eight inches tall now. This is the first year that they have grown bloom stalks. They had some pretty little orange flowers on the stalks. When the flowers were dead and I cut the stems off of them one of them grew another stalk a couple of months later. I keep my plants inside under grow lights so maybe they have no idea what the seasons are. I am going to redo the arrangement pots. I wonder if I should put one of them in a pot by itself to see if it grows larger! Probably being in a pot with other succulents has kept them moderately smaller.

I have something with the same shape and color, but it offsets readily and remains very small when compared to yours. It might be a different hybrid which looks the same but is smaller. By the way, you can use the raised area in the background of your video to install potted aloes which grow large and maybe plant few in the ground. It is a good area for desert bonsai trees and more cacti.
@CactusCaffeine

Thanks! I’m being careful with what I plant in ground in my garden as it gets very hot there during summer and freezing in the winter. But if this aloe develops offsets, I may just take the chance with the mother aloe and plant it in the ground as you suggested. 😊
@TerryJent
@TerryJent Жыл бұрын
My aloe swordfish is about as big as yours and it has three offsets around it. Swordfish is a pretty good size aloe, but I think you will still be happy with its eventual size. Maybe they will offset quicker in a smaller pot.
@CactusCaffeine
@CactusCaffeine Жыл бұрын
Oh! Now I’m looking forward to see some offsets from mine. I can always restart offsets to keep a smaller Swordfish if the mother plant gets too big. Thank you for that info! ☺️

@CactusCaffeine

Haworthia and Aloes don’t seem to mind high humidity as long as their soil goes dry at times. Your weather is perfect for all types of Epiphytic cacti. Those I can’t grow successfully here in the desert. You may also want to try Gymnocalycium and Astrophytum. Just make sure they stay dry longer than your Thanksgiving cactus.

I love your wonderful channel, Ana ! I have 8 cacti and they are all well loved. and I have learned so much from your channel. They are inside now because I live in Pennsylvania and the temps are becoming chilly. Do you advise watering them on occasion throughout the long winter here? Thank you!
@CactusCaffeine
@CactusCaffeine Жыл бұрын
I give mine a little sip of water even during the winter. My climate is too dry to completely withhold water. If you have heater inside the house, your cacti may not go completely dormant and thus may require a little water during winter.

I love this aloe it's beautiful! It's been in like the high 80s to low 90s here still pretty hot for late October is it bad to keep watering all my cactus during this fall season? I thought it is still important to water consistently in this heat since they 🌵 seem to be responding positively to it. When should I stop watering so much ? When the days get to be at max temp of the 60s?
@CactusCaffeine
@CactusCaffeine Жыл бұрын
80s-90s is still warm. You can still water as long as you let them go dry in between waterings. Aloes grow during cooler temperatures so I continue to water them (sparingly) during winter. But you have to consider your humidity. If you have high humidity, then I would cut back on watering your cacti. Here in Las Vegas, I do not totally stop watering even during winter. I give them a sip every now and then.
@solarwinds-
@solarwinds- Жыл бұрын
This is off topic but, I'm going to move to the SW desert area. Las Vegas is a consideration. What do you find that is hardest to live with besides the heat and wind? I will not mind that. What is hardest to live with other than that?
@CactusCaffeine

Pollen allergens. It is seasonal but I take my allergy meds sometimes daily during high pollen season. Other than that, it is really the dry air. I get nose bleeds. But having a humidifier in the room helps. Wether it is summer or winter, our humidity is always very low. But the positive side of that is we don’t sweat a lot. 😉 Good luck! Las Vegas is a fun city to be in. There is always something going on.
@solarwinds-

Yeah I had nose bleeds when I was there too. I do have allergies (who doesn't) but I have them when it's humid. When it's dry, I do really well.@@CactusCaffeine
