Repotting and Staking Hoya Cumingiana

Today I am repotting and staking my Hoya Cumingiana (Bush Hoya) in some nice chunky mix. I'm also showing you my DIY trellis made of bamboo sticks that I attached to this beautiful Hoya. Enjoy!

Hi Carmen! How are you? Doug Chamberlain had a video about making Hoya trellises with metal garden fencing. I bought plastic garden fence at Walmart on clearance. It was 2' X 24' for $9.99. You can make the trellises any size to fit any pot. You can also cut off some of the trellis if you need a smaller one. Last, you can leave it open incase you have a plant that grows over the side. I used bamboo stakes and weaved them through the fencing at the ends and middle. I use zip ties to close the trellis. Put it around the plant first. I learned that the hard way. Then the Hoyas climb up the middle and then I spiral them around the outside. I attach them to the trellis with velcro plant tape. I have done this for a lot of my Hoyas and they love it. Enjoy! @@carmenwhitehead It is a roll of green, plastic garden fence. Doug uses metal ones. The plastic is easier to work with and does not get really cold in the winter. 😎

Any tips for transferring water propagations to soil?

Keep the soil evenly moist after repotting. The roots were use to being in water, you don't want to shock them by being in dry soil for a long time.

The Cumingiana is a fast grower and easy to propagate with stem cuttings. I have mine in an east facing window and gets some morning light only.

Can you do a video on how and where you store your soil mixture? I feel like everyone talks about the mix and then just puts it in any plastic bin and it's fine. Mine is in an airtight Home Depot food quality bucket and when I opened it there was mold growing on the bark😕that's never happened before. Don't know what went wrong there. 😭Shouldn't it be airtight so pests can't get in?? Help....lol. No, really... please help.💚🌿

I do use plastic bins from Walmart. The mold probably came from some moisture that was on the bark already. I do open my bins regularly to take out soil or put in, so that gives it some air circulation. But, it's a good video recommendation, thanks.

Love your videos. Always so informative and easy to understand. Just want to give some advice. (Hope you don't mind.) When you do videos by this table - you could put some nice big plant in place where mobile shelfs are (with your tools and stuff). Would looks nicer. You are doing great job, and inspire me to learn how to look after my plants better.
