Just shows by changing the angle of the tree in the pot you get a completely different style, so as you have said many times don't just accept that the tree should remain in the possition t was in the pot at the beginning. I do think you have to be aware that people who watch your videos may have a very different weather in the fall than you do, so repotting then may not be the right decision to take, for instance here in the UK we have a very different weather pattern than in America as do other countries. So fall can mean different things to different people. Thanks Milton for the work you do for bonsai.

I might not have mentioned in this video...but have many times in many video...to avoid rootball damage due to freezeing, winterize youe bonsai and erpot in the spring. Sorry idf I forgot to say that. We in CA are blessed with mild winter. Could freeze, not not deep freeeze.

Beautiful tree, artfully pruned and positioned. Is it better to leave the tree in the ground, and trim in place to more quickly develop the trunk? At what point do you plant a seedling in a pot, and do you use prepared bonsai potting mix or plain garden potting soil initially? Thank you for your great, informative videos.
@MiltonChang-ee6rqАй бұрын
Not every tree has to have thick trunk. Everything has to be proportional. I plant trees in nursery pots with garden potting soil because there is ample soil...for bonsai, I use my good soil mix because the amount of soil is very limited in a shallow pot.

Is this true in cold climates... like NY? Asking for a friend
@MiltonChang-ee6rqАй бұрын
See the response to the last comment...basically safer to erpot in the spring.

Hiya, Milton! I've a question finally... I recently got a weeping cherry starter bonsai the poor thing came from Florida though so it was in REALLY rough shape due to the recent hurricanes! Anyways... It has began to lose leaves so it's probably stressed out, I also noticed the pot it came in is VERY small for that tree so I want to repot it but I read you shouldn't repot trees during the Fall so I don't know whether to repot it or give it a chance to grow into it's current pot and wait until Spring... What would you recommend?
@MiltonChang-ee6rqАй бұрын
Where are you located? Wait until spring is always a good idea. Trees do not do much during the dormant season.

@@MiltonChang-ee6rq zone 8 Oregon. I'm mainly concerned cause I've not done anything to the plant since it got here, It just randomly decided to start losing leaves.

They have vestigial roots !
@MiltonChang-ee6rqАй бұрын
Wow! Big word. had to look it up. :🙂 YES. cut off long roots to induce rhe delopment of fibrous roots, which is ore effective to use the limited soil volume. Have fun with your bonsai!
