Hi Linda! For drainage when using a Ceramic pot without a hole in the bottom , I too use a 2nd plastic pot, however ,I put gravel at the bottom of the Ceramic pot without the holes, therefore the top pot is not sitting in constant water,but receives the moisture until it’s dissipated. 😉💕🇦🇺

Greetings from England. Although I have a small garden of a different style to yours, I still enjoy your videos. Love your enthusiasm. I used to top dress with gravel but when I redesigned my my small garden during lock down, I had some smallish round pebbles (2cm ish) to hand and used those instead. They look especially nice when they are wet showing their different colours. Also had some small shards of slate from another project and used those instead to top dress. Using up spare material (hate wasting anything) and looks good as well. Must have a cup of tea and watch another of your videos : )

Look for bonsai tools for repotting..nice small rakes..also you can cop off 30% of roots off many plants..that will stimulate new roots which uptake better

What an inspiration you are Have. I missed the video where you tell us what base you use, and or built , to support your marble slab table? I have several small crummy leftover bathroom and yard sale tables made of schlocky stuff that hold my nursery collection I cover them with oil cloth - helps them last - looks crummy - eventually they dissolve in rain Would love to support with one or two wide heavy duty display areas Like your marble slab But what sort of heavy duty frame/support will hold up over time?

Do you not wash the bigger pots before repotting into them? When I began gardening I was told to do that at some nursery, esp. used pots that one gets thrifting because the porous pots may contain ickies that you don't want transferred to your plants. To drill through pottery or concrete planters, you have to have a special drill bit (ceramic bit for pottery; masonry bit for concrete) made just for that purpose and then go slow. If you try to RUSH the process, the pot will crack.

Lovely and useful information here and thank you. I have stopped using slow release fertilizer due to the polymer coating. Linda, I’m very interested in using gravel to mulch my Terra cotta pots but am wondering about heat. Most of my potted plants are in full sun, would the gravel become too hot? I’m in zone 7b SW TN it gets very HOT but not as much wind like you have.

Hello, Linda. It is such a please to watch you and learn from you. After watching you, topiary is me passion now. I want to start with something small for now. As you said a lot of people is asking about the soil. I want to do the same. What I bought from Lowe's or Home depot I did not like and it's not look like you's in the video. I am looking for the soil with the fine pine barks exactly what you have in the soil box. Can you give the name of that soil please. I just want my plants to be happy. With respect. Thanks in advance. P.S. I am from Russia, live in Brooklyn, NY.

Obviously, you don't subscribe to the rule that pots must be disinfected (10% bleach water) before reusing. Is that just a bunch of hooie? I've also heard it's not so necessary to add broken shards in pots. I will typically place a piece of newspaper to cover the pot's drainage hole so soil doesn't escape.
@LindaVater4 жыл бұрын
Honestly. I think most of the time it’s a bunch of hooie (And thank you for that expression! I haven’t heard it in years and it was the perfect way to use it😂). If any of the plants that had come out of those pots had some kind of past, or fungal issue or other concern, I would have taken action. But I have seldom ever had a problem with that, and I also want my pots aged so I don’t want to bleach off any of that good mossy stuff! No, you don’t have to add a pot shard… Really anything even a leaf or a coffee filter works.
