My number was 571 and I was diagnosed with breast cancer this year. I learned more from this video than I have from my doctors! Thank you ❤

How important are the reproductive risk factors when determining a woman's overall risk of getting breast cancer? I mean, for example, judged against a healthy lifestyle that includes lots of fruits and veggies and regular exercise? There must be a lot of factors that come into play or at least I'm hoping so because I'm guessing I'm not the only woman who is feeling a bit doomed right now due to her high number!

I have had a lot of cycles, still at nearly 50 yr old still not post menopause. Breastfed yes, but nobody in my immediate female (mom or daughter has had breast cancer yet ). Menarche at my last month of being 10 yrs old.

Wish I would’ve kept a record of ages of each. 😬Thanks for so much good information Dr. Taylor.

I'm very confused by some of this. The average age of menopause is 51, and the average age of menarche is 12. That would put the "average" woman at a "very high risk" of breast cancer. That doesn't seem right. Starting menopause before age 40 is abnormal and means something is wrong in the body. Having 8 kids and breastfeeding all of them obviously will lower your risk, but if the "average" equals "very high risk" that doesn't seem right. Average should equal average risk.

Perhaps one reason it’s so common even in women who have practiced healthy living all their lives and had no other risk factors ✋🏼😕
@cm1906

The main takeaway of this lecture was that the total number of menstrual cycles influences a woman’s risk of breast cancer. The more cycles, the higher the risk. Therefore, average age of onset of menarche and menopause does not automatically mean this should result in an average breast cancer risk. You are forgetting the number of cycles. Up until fairly recently in human history, having no or only very few children was not the “average”.

@@NicolesNaturals 😄 I’m pretty sure the “guy” who wrote that part of the bible did not have breast cancer prevention in women in mind! Sorry - I’m a science and “laws of nature” kind of person. 😉
@NicolesNaturals

@@cm1906 I believe that the laws of nature and God both exist. You can pray until you're blue in the face that God will heal your lung cancer, but if you continue to smoke, that is where the laws of nature comes in. The Bible contains advice, and it is good for the female body to have a lot of children. I don't think God waves a magic wand over people to heal them, I think He puts things in our path to help us. He created the laws of nature and laid out a diet plan for us to keep us healthy. I don't think He would approve of us eating McDonald's LOL. I respect your opinion however. Cheers!

Late to start 15, early to end 42. First full term pregnancy 29. Had 5 children by 39. Breast fed all but one for a few months. Milk supply was a real issue. My score 298. My Obgyn raised sheep as a child. She told me that I would likely have been sent to market had I been an ewe. 😅

Very interesting video, this is the best university! The one question I have is how does your age at your first pregnancy play out in the formula? I didn't see it...if someone could help I would be very thankful.
@MenopauseTaylor
@MenopauseTaylor 9 ай бұрын
Your age at first pregnancy is not in the equation. But the rationale is that the later your first pregnancy, the fewer pregnancies you will have overall (because of that biological tick, tick, tick).

The only risk factor I don't quite understand is having your first pregnancy at an early age. If you have a later start but have multiple pregnancies, how is age a factor, if what matters is the number of cycles you have in total?
@MenopauseTaylor
@MenopauseTaylor Жыл бұрын
It does not affect your total number of cycles. But it does enable your breasts to complete an entire breast cycle (first half of your menstrual cycle + second half of your menstrual cycle + pregnancy + breastfeeding) earlier in your lifetime. And that decreases your risk of breast cancer.

I had a lot of cycles, although I had kids. Most of my life I was on the pill. Some doctors said, then you don’t have „real“ cycles? But I guess you’ll talk about that next week?
@MenopauseTaylor
@MenopauseTaylor Жыл бұрын
It all depends on whether you took your birth control pills on a cyclic regimen or on a continuous regimen. That's what makes a huge difference.

This is precisely the kind of thing for which I do one-on-one consultations. You definitely need one. I cannot tailor things specifically to you in a comment box. It requires much more information than you can give me here, and you deserve much more information than I can give you here. No two women are alike, and addressing your situation requires tailoring all the facts specifically to YOU. I do them all via online video conferencing. You can schedule at MenopauseTaylor.ME. I look forward to meeting you and helping you.

Does tubal ligation decrease breast cancer risk? Also, if you were on the pill or hormonal birth control, does that decrease breast cancer risk? Does the copper IUD decrease breast cancer risk? I'm guessing some of those will be next week. 🙂
@MenopauseTaylor
@MenopauseTaylor Жыл бұрын
No tubal ligation has no effect whatsoever on your risk of breast cancer. Neither do any of the other things you listed.

Can you explain why you subtract the total number of months you breastfed when most women's menstrual cycles return while they are still breastfeeding? I breastfed each of my 2 daughters for 35 and 37 months respectively. I went without menstrual cycles for 21 months with daughter number 1. Daughter number 2, though she did not have any nourishment other than breast milk for the first 10 months of her life, discovered the joys of food at age 15 months. She cut back her nursing sessions quite a bit at that time. I could tell that my fertility was returning and correctly predicted almost to the day when my periods would return. They came back when she was 18 months old. Most of the women I knew through La Leche League did not breast feed exclusively and had their periods return much sooner than mine. Knowing what i know about breastfeeding culture in the U.S. I do not believe it is accurate to say that if one breastfed a child until age one that that also means the woman did not have periods for 12 months. I cannnot accurately say that because I breastfed my daughters for a total of 72 months that I also did not have periods during that entire length of time.
@MenopauseTaylor

Most women do not have periods while breastfeeding. But the reason is that your BREASTS are completing their full cycle while breastfeeding, and that decreases your risk of Breast Cancer.
