One thing I think is often not recognized, but which your video highlights very well, is just how athletic a competition Strongman is. Seeing you big boys sprinting while carrying massive weights is wild. Hope you enjoy your time in the Shadow Realm :D

5:38 the main point of axle (in strongman) is that there’s no flex in the bar so you need to pull all the weight right away, no pulling 3 inches of flex
@dantethunderstone21183 ай бұрын
@northbuster290 yeah but in strongman the point of it is that there’s no flex, strongman doesn’t care about which muscle move what

I do like the benefit of the axle bar for deadlift and just using straps on stiff bars in general have helped me from the floor at least . I still haven’t done any axle bar deadlift in competitions that have done recently. I’m hoping next year when I get in shape there will be a strongman comp near by with an axle bar for reps or even max lol

What kind of accessories does John typically do for upper body? Most of the strongman stuff he has incorporated seems to be lower body focused. I'm not sure how much OHP or direct triceps/chest work he does.

Is that farmers carry also similar usage as wrecking ball hold too🤔
@davideaston84373 ай бұрын
I know grip has never been a major issue for you, but the last cycle it seemed to be a bit more of a struggle (expected when you’re pulling 900+). Do you think the dedicated grip training with the hold will help?

Do you ever do a static hold with heavy weight . Like for a 600 pound bencher like your self the weight would be 610- 620 pounds for a 10 second hold ? I've heard it can be beneficial but I wounder if the juice is worth the squeeze.

Since you 're lapping the sandbags and not picking them up with one motion, don't worry about fixing your grip before the pick-up, you're just wasting time. Pick it up with your forearms as fast as possible and then optimize your grip while it's on your lap anyway.

Is hook grip allowed for the wrecking ball hold?
@Aeklypsis3 ай бұрын
No point, you are wedging the bar against your thighs, so you're basically hook gripping with all your fingers. Also, you'll usually give out from general discomfort and fatigue, not from grip.

@@MHB30 I respect your opinion. But you need to hold it as much as you can. Never tried it, but it seems the most taxing in my view. It's about mental resilience and desire to win...
@McWhatevs3 ай бұрын
@@MHB30 According to Mitch it's "just" a matter of hook gripping and wedging it against your thighs and see who can take the pain (of the hook grip) the longest. As such, he's actually not a fan of it as a test of strength (even though he held the world record for a while there). I'm sure Loz will have tips on it however.

A MRI of John would be very interesting bc we would know his body composition then. Muscle mass volume, size of tendons. Eddie Hall's tendons aren t that much bigger than the ones of an average man (they did a MRI with Eddie couple years ago). Since John is that strong, i could imagine they would discover something special in his body composition.
