Blue is a freaking darling. You clearly stated that he's an invasive species where you captured him and after seeing how he interacted with you I don't understand how anyone can fault you for keeping him. He's very clearly well cared for and loved. These people don't seem to recognize that human x animal contact can be rewarding for BOTH species. It should be abundantly clear that he is attached to you very much. He presented his face, an incredibly vulnerable area, to you to rub and pet and appeared to greatly enjoy it, even making a B-line for.your bed which would have your scent all over it. He knew exactly what he was doing and went somewhere he feels safe. You. Were he in the wild he would potentially be culled, injured, or face numerous diseases. These people complaining need to be tuned out. You care for these animals and do so in a compassionate and ecologically responsible way. If anyone wants to argue that point then they haven't been paying attention and need to get off their high horses.

Now that this video is over a YEAR old, check out my MUCH larger updated room tour here! kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqWkaJxqirmhj6M For those who are unaware - Blue was NOT taken from his natural habitat. Argentine tegus are native to Argentina, but Blue was legally captured in the Florida Everglades, where tegus are a hugely destructive invasive species. Had I not kept him the only legal and environmentally conscious option would have been to euthanize him.

@afroherpkeeper How did you resolve Spike the Bearded Dragon's lack of appetite? My 10 month old BD has been eating a lot less than he used to. His temps are good and does still eat some of his veggies but hasn't wanted to eat much of his super worms. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks
@AfroHerpkeeper
@AfroHerpkeeper 7 жыл бұрын
There are lots of different things which can change an animal's appetite - in Spike's case, it may have been internal parasites. Once she got medicine for those, her appetite came back pretty quickly. I had her tested at a local exotics vet, but you can also order a fecal sample kit online. In addition, yours may just not like superworms anymore - you could try crickets and roaches and see if those elicit a response.

Bro. I almost never watch a video over 15 minutes. This is also the first time on your channel. You seem fairly young (14-17?) This video was amazing. You seemed extremely comfortable on video, good speech, everything was explained. Amazing amazing amazing I have been debating a reptile. I want a tegu, or bearded dragon, I'm just afraid I won't be able to give them as much human interaction as they would need. Maybe I should stick with a snake? Your skinks were amazing! Are they good for beginners?
@AfroHerpkeeper
@AfroHerpkeeper 7 жыл бұрын
Glad you like the content! Blue tongues are very hardy lizards and do good as beginner pets if you can find some for sale. I'd recommend kingsnake.com for that. Most lizards don't need too much interaction, but tegus are needy and very intelligent. I think a beardie, crestie, leopard gecko, or blue tongue skink would be a good fit for you, or a snake species if you're really worried about being away.
@peberly400
@peberly400 7 жыл бұрын
AfroHerpkeeper yes looking into to it, I think a snow/leopard gecko would be best (handling is easier than a bearded) As far as snakes go, I would want one that I could basically wrap around my arm like a bracelet and it would just stay there absorbing body heat. I would also want it to be a fairly laid back species, since I would want my kids to also hold them and they are fairly hi-strung. What species of snakes would you recommend?

AfroHerpKeeper I have a question, I want to get myself a reptile. What should I get as it would be my first time owning one, I have one rule. No Snakes! I do have an old tank from my two hermit crabs, let's just say they left the building… anyways though do you have any recommendations? I would love to here from you or anyone in the comments
@coffeflavoured2445
@coffeflavoured2445 7 жыл бұрын
I'm not AfroHerpKeeper, but I'm gonna give my opinion anyways. I suggest a bearded dragon! They are lovely animals, they are really social and curious animals. They are rarley aggresive, and never bites unless they think you are food etc. Another good pet is a leopard gecko, they are night active so they might not be as fun, but they are really docile. Blue tounged skinks are also really social animals. They are such cuties and are really docile and rarley aggresive. African fat tailed geckos are also really charming animals, but they hide alot. Tokay geckos are my favourite type of geckos, they have a bad reputation of being mean, which I have to disagree on. Reptiles tend to run when they sense danger, but tokay geckos stand on their grounds! They may bite you, and if they do, they won't let go. But when trust you, and they understand that you aren't a danger, they are really charming and such cuties. I wouldn't recommend them if you are new and scared of lizards, but maybe something in the future? Hope this helped

All the options Lumber suggested are great - I would also recommend rhacodactylus geckos (such as cresties) as well as mud/musk/box turtles if you're looking into something with a shell. Whatever you get, be sure to do lots of research and try to find an animal bred in captivity!

As I explained in the video, that isn't his usual enclosure. Skink is in a transitionary setup for the time being and will be put into a new one soon. The one he's in currently fits his other environmental requirements and the height adds extra surface area.

When I was a kid there was a blue tongue that lived in our backyard. It'd obviously been someone's pet at one point with how friendly it was. We used to feed her cat food/mince and egg. Always had a soft spot for them since.

I love how you take care of your animals because some you tubers only give them there food and water and a stick and a branch in with there reptile habitats and put newspaper as there beding,but you give them better bedding,a heating lamp,and more things to climb on.
