Awesome tutorial! I was wondering what you could do to make the scales less geometric and give them rounder corners? I'm trying to texture a T. rex and would like to give it these kinds of scales.

Thanks bro! Any suggestions of what to do especially in animation that the texture will not be affected. Or to have smooth effect.

Great tutorial! Thanks! At 5:13, why did you plug in the vector mapping to Color2 in the Mix node? What is this transition from vector to colour supposed to achieve? Many thanks for your help 🙂

This tut is great. I am new in blender but as far as i understand, materials can be made, so what is the point of downloading one? Also, what is the difference between material and texture?

Would be cool if you'd incorporate reference and break down the logic systems required to replicate it. Looked up some closeup views of reptile skin and noticed that its actually kind of like rounded packed bubbles that tend to be dark and matte in the crevices and brighter / glossier on the rounded part. Theres also slight color variation that could be achieved with noise and hue shifting. Think a lot could be learned if you look at a reference and point out the logic steps required to help people build intuition for it

Yes, that would be awesome.

Very cool, Ducky. I made a similar material but I couldn't figure out how to vary the size of the scales. So this is handy. Here is another problem: What if your lizard (or whatever) had mostly big scales on its back, and mostly small scales (possibly of different color) on its underside? Could we use a gradient, or maybe vertex colors to change the ratio of large to small scales (& maybe color changes too) gradually, over different parts of the mesh? How would that work? Where would one plug that in? And another thing: Procedural textures are loads of fun, but when I load up my scene with them it brings my computer to its knees. Would it be feasible to bake a procedural texture and its maps to a seamless texture to cut down on computational demands? Thanks
@JuanCLeal Жыл бұрын
Maybe put the texture coordinate "normal" through a math "less than", which will allow you to choose a different factor for horizontal planes and others for vertical places. You could also filter the position coordinate so different textures appear at different heights. For baking procedural textures, there is an excelent tutorial from Kaizen Tutorials, watch?v=G5soIHt7ofU

Bro Thanks for the great video, I wanted to ask you can you make a video how to save your materials so that you don't have to re-create it every time. On the Internet, especially on KZbin, there are no such normal videos about it.
@neilmarshall50872 жыл бұрын
If you save the file the texture is saved inside it. You can then use File > Append to go inside that file and grab the texture from a different file. If you open the default file, Append several textures, then File > Defaults > Save Startup file, you will have the textures always available. Or save them all into a Textures file and append when needed. This is all in the Manual. Why have you not read it yet? A day reading the manual will teach you more than a month on YT.

Without that last color ramp edit that pattern would probably go as plasma too if shaded with correct colors and stuff🤔 it looks a bit similar to the photos we’ve seen of our sun 🤓

Soo I started learning blender few weeks ago and was wondering if I can paint my mesh with the material i just made following the tutorial bc the only way i could currently get it on it would just cover up the whole thing and not allow me to use texture paint to make more details on it, so can i use it somehow the same way as in texture paint or is it just all or nothing type of thing
@RoeShamBeaux Жыл бұрын
So I'm trying to figure that out right now, and it seems like you can paint different areas and classify them as different materials, and then you can use different shaders on each material
@tylerwinter512 Жыл бұрын
Noob question, how do you save that as a material for use in other projects.?
