Bowie is such a rockstar! Screeched at the intro! I loved that you mentioned how they recognize and prefer their owners. My Mystik legit stretches his long body all the way out when my husband holds him, trying to get right back to me. He looks like a dowsing rod lol.

Hello, I am writing to you from Italy, you have given a perfect account of how a rainbow boa is raised in captivity. Basically a healthy photocopy of what I do too, in breeding. Including feeding at night. They love to climb and cold areas more than warm ones, the humidity must never drop below 80%, better if more. Well, it was a real pleasure listening to you, I wish you a happy 2023. Best regards. Paolo (from FIRENZE/FLORENCE)

I've noticed a lot of the same things. My baby, and even now that she is a little over a year, still gets a case of the zoomies sometimes when handling. She will move really fast for a bit, and then relax and move slowly again. She also went through a phase where she would strike, coil, and not eat. I'd offer it again, she'd do the same thing. She would then eat on the third time. Sometimes, she wouldn't strike at all, but would eat the drop. As she has gotten a bit older, she seems to be eating much better with a one strike, coil, and eat. I'm a big believer in bell and tap training my boas. If I give them a gentle rub along the back with the snake hook (or a plastic spoon when tiny), they learn that it is not eating time. I also have trained my BCI with a bell. When he hears the bell, he knows it is time to eat, and he does not play. I've read of people target training their snakes to know when it is time to eat, too. The only thing that I found that worked easier for me when they are little is keeping them in a plastic tub vs the big enclosure. The babies need as close to 100% humidity as you can manage, and all commercial enclosures, even Zen, will leak if it gets that wet. I used reptile safe caulk on mine, but water just finds a way. The tub keeps it super high, and you can still put in all of the hides, water bowls, and heat pads to keep them happy. For my 4x2x2 Zen that I am keeping her in once she reaches 2 years old, I went to the dollar store and bought three cheap oil changing pans. With two of them, I cut an opening in in the sides, and turned them upside down, and used great stuff foam and the DryLock paint to make hides. The third one I use as a really big water bowl. Love BRB videos. Keep em up! Bowie is getting big. Can't wait until mine gets that large. She can still be coiled up to the point where she will fit in my hand. :)

My corn snake recognizes me as well- whenever somebody else holds her she always reaches back towards me and I know she just prefers me handling her and she trusts me the most. On another note, I am considering a brazilian rainbow boa as my next snake so I loved this!

Hello Trish, i love rainbow boas. I've had mine for 2 years and her name is "Alice". Unfortunately they live very hidden. Sometimes you don't see them for days. There are so many beautiful snakes in North America. I have another question: I think the rough grass snake (Opheodrys aestivus) is very beautiful. Why is it so little mentioned in the US reptile scene and apparently rarely kept? I love your channel and watch every episode. greetings from Germany mike

I definitly can confirm snakes recognising their owners! My cornsnake couldn't care less if I am doing something in front of her enclosure - she just continues doing her thing or actually comes to the glass to check out what I am doing. When my fiance or my best friend are there, she usually watches them carefully for a moment before continuing to roam around. BUT if there is a stranger (for example my Mom on a visit) she immediately goes into "I am a stick, you can't see me" mode and just stops moving completely before quickly slithering into her favorite hide. 😂 Our BRB Rio also recognises his handler... My fiance and I got him as a rescue and he still is a juvenile (he was always very gentle and almost never nippy by the way!😍) Because my fiance has more space in his flat Rio is living with him, also technically he is "my" snake. So it always breaks my heart a little when I am there for a visit and take Rio out for handling and he strait up tries to get to my fiance.😂😂😢💔 Let's hope this will change when we move together soon. 😉❤️🌈🐍

My baby hides during the day. I've added a new hide just today but is that normal? She isn't very active. But that could be that she's entering her shedding period

my brb one time managed to go under my microwave (he’s an adult it’s a countertop microwave) and i was panicking lol they are very quick and will get to anything they can. i love him but i also have a harder time reading him so he makes me the most nervous while handling, compared to my bps and baby bci. he’s only ever struck one time tho and it was my fault he was very stressed.

The only way I could get my little lady to go to the warm side was to keep ambient temps at 77-78. (72 on the other side) she eats and digests without issue, she just won't have anything to do with 80+ temps lol.

I love all of your BRB and humidity based videos. I am getting a baby BRB this week and I am so excited. I based all my products off of your recommendations- enclosure, substrate, Josh’s frogs clean up crew species, plants and decor. I also ordered moss pillows. I’m so excited- this is my dream snake (well I actually would love a GTP but I personally don’t think I could feed live). More BRB videos would definitely be watched by me!
