I am brazilian and they are pretty common pets here so I have some interesting fun facts to say: 1. The brazilian rainbow boas you guys have in the gringolandia are the Amazonian ones. They are bigger, have this pretty red/orange color and are a bit sassier than the other ones. They also demand the most humidity. 2. There are 2 other subespecies of rainbow boas and they are the most common. 3. The Caatinga rainbow boa demands SO MUCH LESS humidity, cause the Caatinga is actually one of our driest habitats. They are also much more chill tempered and are smaller. 4. The Atlantic Rainbow boa is the smallest I guess, and are darker than the others (some are basically almost black with the rainbowish-iridescence). And they are also the chillest, but require the same level of humidity as the Amazonian. I guess only the Amazonian ones are allowed or can be found in the US, but the Caatinga boa is by far the easiest one to keep, and is just as beautiful as her Amazonian cousin.

Nice video, as always! I've had a Brazilian Rainbow Boa for just over a year, (and I made the decision to get her in part because of your videos, so thank you!), so I am no expert, but I think it might be fair to say another possible con is that even though they are so incredibly beautiful, people shouldn't get them expecting to have a display snake. I know you touched on this when you described how active they are at night. But I'd really like to emphasize that this beautiful snake seems to be happiest when it's acting like an earthworm and is completely buried in substrate during the day. Do NOT get a BRB if you want/expect to see them during the day! That said, I adore my BRB girl; she's very gentle and just a joy to keep even if she's mainly an earthworm, lol. REGARDING BREEDERS: Facebook can be a crazy place, BUT the two Brazilian Rainbow Boa groups there are VERY good, with many experienced breeders and keepers active there. That's the first place I would recommend looking. Just please remember that you can't make posts on FB that mention buying/selling or costs of buying animals. Just post that you'd like breeder recommendations.

At least the last con isn't a problem for us (Brazilian). We can get only boas as pets. There's a bunch of species of rainbow boas here, like maurus, crassus or cenchria. Since they're the only kind of snakes legalized for us, I was thinking about getting one, but I wasn't sure. This video helped

Great video! I've had my Herm the Worm for almost a year now and my experience with him is spot on with your comments regarding BRBs. I got him as a baby and he was around 18 inches. He's now a solid 30 inches long. So, they don't grow overly fast, but they do grow faster than some videos would have you believe.

I got my baby “Herm the Worm” in January from XYZReptiles. I think he was 4-6 months old when I got him (I don’t know his exact birthday). I did a lot of research so I knew what I was getting into. Everything you said I have found to be true with Herm. He was quite “SASSY” (as you say) lol. That said, he was so small he couldn’t even break the skin. It literally felt like a tiny pin prick. But, he calmed down after 2 or 3 weeks of handling. The way I deal with humidity right now (he’s in 20 gallon long terrarium) is I keep a wet cloth covering about 3/4s of the screen top and have no issues keeping the humidity at 90%. One tip I’ll throw out there that you didn’t cover is when they shed. I don’t know if this applies to all BRBs, but with Herm, his eyes don’t milk over. But his under side will get this pinkish color at the beginning of his shed cycle and his body will get milky looking. I got this tip from Michael Lockwood (an expert with Brazilians). When Herm goes into shed cycle, I lightly mist him every night until he sheds and he always has perfect sheds. Anyway, thanks for your videos. I really enjoy them.

I love my Rainbow Dash!!! She is absolutely my most docile and affectionate snake. She even *likes* head rubs, and that is something I've never observed with any other snake. I originally hadn't planned on adding a Brazilian rainbow to the family, but once I met Rainbow Dash my heart melted and I had to take her home with me. She is quite the escape artist; that is the only negative I've experienced with her thus far. They certainly need high humidity. My girl loves to tunnel in her substrate; I could watch her explore for hours!
@eviljack16873 жыл бұрын
My BRB was also an escape artist, she would push the fogger tube out of the tank and go hid under a dresser or the couch. I feel it was a game to her, I would come home, freak out that she was missing, search for her for about 2 hrs only to find her under a piece of furniture and then she would hang out a little bit until it was time to go back in her home. She passed away probably 6 years ago now and I miss her to this day. One of the best snakes i've ever owned.
@IrieRogue3 жыл бұрын
@@eviljack1687 so sorry for your loss, love. I know that pain well. Mine has a habit of actually returning to her enclosure, as long as I left her access to it. My 7 ft retic and I have probably the closest bonds. I open his enclosure when he wants to come out, and he explores the entire house while the cat stares at him lol. He even listens to commands, like "no" and "go ahead, good boy" and "this way"(with pointing). Very smart.

Bowie is gorgeous and I really dig your videos. You have such a calming voice. I've had my BRB, Kurt Russell, for 14 months now. I got him very small and I picked him just because he was so calm. About 6 months in I was holding him and he just snapped at me. We've had a complicated relationship since then and he doesn't seem to like me much anymore, but he's beautiful and seems content as long as I leave him alone. He eats incredibly well and has grown large very quick. I want to try tame him before he gets too big but I also don't want to stress him out anymore. Everything I tried seemed to piss him off more so Im kinda at a loss, but I'm also cool with him just being a show snake. It would just be so much cooler if he liked being held.

The terrariums I've found seem the best size and price... well, only one of them has a lid and the other one has a screen top. Not sure if she mentioned it but Brazilian rainbow boas are born live instead of an egg. This contributes to them being defensive as babies. They're also a semi arboreal species.

@ChromatophoneNature2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video. A couple things: I have never heard BRBs called "amazing eaters" before. My 20 year old only eats about 6 or 7 times a year (which I have heard is common with adults) and she is super picky. She will only eat the highest quality rats, and after about 3 weeks in the freezer the rats will no longer be acceptable to her and she will reject them as food. She has been this picky most of her life. Also, my BRB rarely leaves her hide box, night or day. Most boring reptile I have ever had behavior-wise, so this is a big con for me. Not an active nocturnal animal in my opinion. How old is Boee? She is GORGEOUS. Mine lost most of the color in her bright orange crescents after a few years unfortunately. I agree that the coiling and hiding can be tough to deal with!

Does Bowie also spass out out sometimes, like Jane where she just flicks around like crazy when being handled? Was worse when she was younger but she still does it sometime though being 3 yo now. In this case I have to hold her very tight to my body so she calms down the silly monkey haha. Apparently it's rather common with Bc/i at least and they usually drop this habit when older...
