This is very informative for someone like me who has a chameleon for the first time, not only that but has never really handled a reptile before. So this is really making me realize all the stuff I'm doing wrong, and what I need to do right to help my chameleon know I am a safe zone. Thank you !

OMG he's so cute! I have always wanted a chameleon, but I've always heard they're not a good pet for someone that like to handle a lot, and their husbandry doesn't allow for mistakes. Maybe someday when I'm more experienced, I'll get one! Loved the video! ❤️

@Red Fox This is true. I had my Pluto (RIP buddy) from a baby and he literally looked forward to coming out and sitting on his tree, or climbing on my head. He'd run at me to get some tree time. I'm getting another tomorrow, he's 12 weeks, so a bit older than Ploots was when I got him. I'm praying that he's even half as friendly as my last one. Can't wait to get him, had a hole in my life since Pluto passed.

Phenomenal video❣️ Same technique's I've use when I first started handling my pet chameleon Hendrix. I didn't handle him so much in the beginning because I knew it would stress him out. I would open his enclosure so when he felt safe he would come out in his own terms. Great job explaining this Trisha. Bamba has a great mommy ❤️

Oh my goodness, he is beautiful !! I loved both the Panthers and Veiled Chameleons. Mine would hang on the door saying let me out. I would take them outside so they could get that natural sun. They always have what I call "a fresh smell" after being outside. If you are in tune to them you can make them happy. ✌🏻❤

I have offered my hand to him a few times but when he hisses I get so scared and scream/cower. I know thats the worst thing to do but i’m so scared of him biting me. Just seeing this video now and I wanted to thank you for the tips in getting them used to you/handling. I will try the hand feeding tomorrow(unfortunately we do not know how old she is and I personally think that she was not given enough time to adjust to her environment and we are also in the process of giving her a bioactive setup!! I am hoping that she will be a little happier with her new environment(the enclosure is also front opening so I am praying that that will help with her stress. I will keep watching her stress levels and habits when certain things are done. Thankyou again!

So I know I found this video later but I just got, what I think to be a female, veiled chameleon:) she is the sweetest thing ever and has never opened her mouth at me once. She has however puffed up a few times when she is nervous about someone or something new. I have heard that she is one of the nicest baby chameleons ever haha. However she does get nervous and stressed sometimes too, so I will for sure be yawing there hand feeding tactic and staying lower than her. Also is it ok to “handle her” within the first week of getting her if she comes into my hands freely? Or do I still need to wait until she is even more comfortable after the hand feeding? Thank you for the info!!

Really love your videos. I am soon to be a chameleon owner. As a Chef, I work long hours. What advice do you have for someone like me, for taking care of my chameleon? Do you have your basking light on a timer? If so, how long between sessions do put the timer on? The feeding wont be a problem. As I will be able to feed him regularly. Hi Trish! I loved this video but I need help! It worked too well and my Veiled, Crowley wants to come out of his house everytime I go near the cage. He comes down to the door and paws at the latch until I let him out or he gets bored and climbs back up to his canopy. He doesn't do much sitting, just uses me as an escalator more than a tree. He doesn't seem to stress when out either, he stays light colored. Any tips?

I know I’m late and all but I am no expert at all on this topic but I do have a baby female chameleon and when she is stressed or hiding from me or anyone really, I just leave her be for about another hour or so and come back when she is more relaxed, then I just will giver her the option to get on a stick instead of my hand so she feels safer as I pull her out. Then she will eventually make her way to my hands if they remain still. Once she gets there I can slowly start to move around and let her explore my arms and hands so she knows I will not hurt her. I hope this helps! :)

I just adopted my chameleon from an owner who couldn’t take care of him. He escaped his enclosure and was living in a shed for a day or two. When I got him, I fixed him up his new enclosure and he was very, very docile. As soon as I put him in his new enclosure he very much liked it. He was refusing to eat, but eventually ate 2 worms. I think it was him telling me that he’s fine, he ate, but leave him alone. And I did the rest of the night. The next day I got him out because my mom wanted to see him. So he was fighting being out of the cage, but I coaxed him on my hand. Everything was fine until I took him to the other room and he was instantly stressed out. Turned a dark blue/black with bright yellow spots. He would gape his mouth so I figured I’d just put him down and let him roam. He was better instantly. He was still gaping his mouth when I would come by him, so I let him crawl into a box and let him back in his enclosure. Later that day, he escaped! But he wasn’t stressed when I picked him up and put him back in his home. This was maybe like 30 mins of him crawling around my room. Anyway. He’s sleeping right now, and his color is a turquoise/brown/yellow, which is very good. I tried feeding him again, but to not avail. I will try again in a day or two. He’s probably just stressed from a new environment.

Use a small short stick as an extension to your hand. Close your hand around the stick in a comfortable steady grip. If they don't come, slowly pull away & it may motivate them. If you must take them out for medical exams, use you opposite hand to gently coax forward from behind. Always move slowly, keep space quiet, speak softly & approach from a lower position. Be patient, you're aiming to establish trust, be consistent with the routine so they get familiar & don't expect to handle frequently. Learn to expand your knowledge & understand subtle behavior cues. Pay attention to feed back & gradually you'll strike a harmonious balance. Before approaching, avoid scented cosmetics or toiletries, it can turn them away & wash after to avoid microscopic issues like bacteria. Blessings!

i know this is a lot older video, so i’m realllly hoping i get a reply lol, but i had a question. i just got a chameleon, a friend needed to rehome him after an unfortunate situation. he’s my first chameleon, though i have experience handling them because i work at a pet store and we had one guy that ALWAYS wanted out and i was very comfortable with handling him. my new chameleon, his name is Booger, is i wanna say 3-4 years old. my friend that i got him from said he was handled as a baby and adult and was very tame to it. i have noticed after me hand feeding him for a while, he does seem like he wants to come out a little bit and walk on my arm. would i go about it the same way in this video for a chameleon that isn’t a baby, and has been handled before? he seems to really like me, when you showed yours at the end and he was very actively looking at you, that’s what mine does when im near him. he seems comfortable being around me because he doesn’t back away or anything like that, ive just been nervous😅 thank you in advance!

Nice one!! Thankyou for your help. What do you recomend for a 2 year old (veilee)chameleon that was never handeled (!!!) and only runs away to hide... got him some time ago but he really has no interest or motivation in food... greetings xx

Mrs. IDC Try seeing if you can open their enclosure and let them climb onto a plant in front of it. Or gently placing your hand near them without causing them stress so they realize you won’t eat them. Sitting next to their enclosure without looking at them can help.

It's not handling related per say, but do you ever have an issue with Banba's nails being super long? My chameleon, Rasputin, has long nails that he's accidentally scratched me with when he grips hard on my arm. Do you know of anything that could help?

Cheyenne Reese Giving him more branches and different types and textures of branches could help with that 👍🏻

Cheyenne Reese Banbas nails actually aren’t that sharp! I think adding more rough surfaces and textures can help shave them down and make it more tolerable when handling!

I've only had my dude for a week but so far he's snapped and hissed at so much that I lost count. I've had to wear thick gloves bc he has tried to bite me. The only time we get along is when we vibe out to music.

why it will not change color into your skin color?
@reptiliangarden
@reptiliangarden 2 жыл бұрын
Nope! Chameleons come in a certain variety of colors based on species and locale. The hues and colors can change a bit due to stress, temp, humidity, or communicating with other chameleons. They cannot change color to match their environment like everyone was told about them.

Just pinch one of the crickets back legs and hold between your fingers but like on the surface of your other back hand, if that makes sense? That’s what I do
