@Red Fox This is true. I had my Pluto (RIP buddy) from a baby and he literally looked forward to coming out and sitting on his tree, or climbing on my head. He'd run at me to get some tree time. I'm getting another tomorrow, he's 12 weeks, so a bit older than Ploots was when I got him. I'm praying that he's even half as friendly as my last one. Can't wait to get him, had a hole in my life since Pluto passed.

Phenomenal video❣️ Same technique's I've use when I first started handling my pet chameleon Hendrix. I didn't handle him so much in the beginning because I knew it would stress him out. So I know I found this video later but I just got, what I think to be a female, veiled chameleon:) she is the sweetest thing ever and has never opened her mouth at me once. She has however puffed up a few times when she is nervous about someone or something new. I have heard that she is one of the nicest baby chameleons ever haha. However she does get nervous and stressed sometimes too, so I will for sure be yawing there hand feeding tactic and staying lower than her. Also is it ok to “handle her” within the first week of getting her if she comes into my hands freely? Or do I still need to wait until she is even more comfortable after the hand feeding? Thank you for the info!!

I know I’m late and all but I am no expert at all on this topic but I do have a baby female chameleon and when she is stressed or hiding from me or anyone really, I just leave her be for about another hour or so and come back when she is more relaxed, then I just will giver her the option to get on a stick instead of my hand so she feels safer as I pull her out. Then she will eventually make her way to my hands if they remain still. Once she gets there I can slowly start to move around and let her explore my arms and hands so she knows I will not hurt her. I hope this helps! :)

I just adopted my chameleon from an owner who couldn’t take care of him. He escaped his enclosure and was living in a shed for a day or two. When I got him, I fixed him up his new enclosure and he was very, very docile. As soon as I put him in his new enclosure he very much liked it. He was refusing to eat, but eventually ate 2 worms. I think it was him telling me that he’s fine, he ate, but leave him alone. And I did the rest of the night. The next day I got him out because my mom wanted to see him. So he was fighting being out of the cage, but I coaxed him on my hand. Everything was fine until I took him to the other room and he was instantly stressed out. Turned a dark blue/black with bright yellow spots. He would gape his mouth so I figured I’d just put him down and let him roam. He was better instantly. He was still gaping his mouth when I would come by him, so I let him crawl into a box and let him back in his enclosure. Later that day, he escaped! But he wasn’t stressed when I picked him up and put him back in his home. This was maybe like 30 mins of him crawling around my room. Anyway. He’s sleeping right now, and his color is a turquoise/brown/yellow, which is very good. I tried feeding him again, but to not avail. I will try again in a day or two. He’s probably just stressed from a new environment.

I have had my girl for 1 year already and she also has been trained to hand feed. Although whenever I invite her to come out and play on her tree she tries too eat my hand. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
@dnllmaurer13 жыл бұрын
Use a small short stick as an extension to your hand. Close your hand around the stick in a comfortable steady grip. If they don't come, slowly pull away & it may motivate them. If you must take them out for medical exams, use you opposite hand to gently coax forward from behind. Always move slowly, keep space quiet, speak softly & approach from a lower position. Be patient, you're aiming to establish trust, be consistent with the routine so they get familiar & don't expect to handle frequently. Learn to expand your knowledge & understand subtle behavior cues. Pay attention to feed back & gradually you'll strike a harmonious balance. Before approaching, avoid scented cosmetics or toiletries, it can turn them away & wash after to avoid microscopic issues like bacteria. Blessings!
