Those are so cute! I’ve done zero dart frog research but I can see myself getting some eventually. I LOVED building my crested gecko’s vivarium but know way more about different plants now so I would really have fun designing one for far frogs. Especially since they’re lighter and less clumsy than geckos! I could use more delicate plants.

If I was going to keep dart frogs I'd absolutely keep this same beautiful blue species as you, Dion! Their colouration and pattern is just unreal so I adore them! If not them, I'd also love to keep mossy frogs - they're incredible, gorgeous little froggies too!❤ ....unfortunately I live in British Columbia though, where someone very misinformed about dart frogs put them on my province's 'thou shalt not enter!' list of sadness. That being said I don't think I am mentally capable of handling something as labour intensive as a dart frog anyway. 😅 I struggle with the whole idea of the feeding fruit fly thing and with my being AuDHD and grieving and figuring out my disability, I'm just way too tired for a pet like that right now. I know it probably isn't any more intimidating than my little reef aquarium and the idea of building a tiny jungle is super fun but somehow marine water chemistry is less intimidating to me than fruit flies. I honestly wouldn't mind trying a larger frog species first though, like maybe a pixie frog or milk frog (I can't remember whether either of those were legal in BC though.) My herp goal at the moment is just hopefully getting a rosy boa by the end of the year. I already have their terrarium scaped (I'm trying to recreate a desert ponderosa pine forest such as is found in Arizona which is easy given that I live in the Okanagan which has the same habitat, just northern.) Right now I'm trying to figure out a potential native plant species to keep in it that isn't a cactus and doesn't get too tall. I also plan on getting the appropriate Arcadia Lumenize light bar, then starting to grow the plant in it at least a month prior to obtaining my boa. But here's what I'm perplexed about; maybe you or another Canadian might have some insight to share? I know that rosy boas have their litters in the fall but given that rosy boas are rare in the Canadian hobby, is it even worth driving six hours to Calgary or Abbotsford in order to try to find one at an autumn expo? Or, would it be better if I just ordered my snake from a company like Tails and Scales? As a biology and vet med nerd I've got it in my head that if, after a few years I find that I really really enjoy keeping my first rosy boa, I'll get it a mate and become a breeder. I've always kind of wanted to have a breeding project of some sort but I never ethically want to contribute to pet overpopulation so the low population of these little stripey boas in the Canadian hobby feels like permission, a potential future opportunity to have fun with breeding. I'm personally a little intimidated by the size of ball pythons (especially housing-wise - a little rosy boa feels simpler and cheaper to give vestigial leg room to, plus no rats have to be involved.) Since I have Pathalogical Demand Avoidance I wouldn't do it out of any desire for monetary gain, just as a hobby, a little way to give others an alternative less scary option to ball pythons and I'd definitely have a return agreement on my babies like dog and cat breeders do so that of any of my babies ever needed rehoming I would take them in rather than see them go to a shelter. I know I must sound silly by being intimidated by the size of ball pythons, the sweetest puppy dog snakes on the planet, but some of the females are bigger than my CAT, and I know that a ball python would get its tail handed to it in a confrontation with a cat, no matter how muscley they look, but their size compared to my beloved kitties still makes me uncomfortable.😅 (Ironically the reason I like tokay geckos so much is because I feel like if one and one of my kitties were to accidentally meet - a happening which I would adamantly endeavour to prevent - I feel that the tokay could potentially defend itself. My first reptile was a leopard gecko and for each day of her 23 years I was constantly paranoid of what could happen if she met one of my cats by accident and unprotected. Diego would've been toast!) Sorry for prattling a bit; thank you, Dion, for being so caring about your animals, being such a staunch example of ethical captive breeding, and sharing your care for your pets with us. Your quiet energy and voice has a very ASMR soothing quality which calms my constantly frazzled neurodivergent mind. Thank you.❤

Hi Dion, we have some dart frog tadpoles x 2 varieties: Azureus and Tumucumaque...and have built our grow out tubs. We have put ventilation holes in the sides and lids.
