In this video, we'll show you how to request and receive oceanic crossing clearance via ACARS (Auroral Communications Automation and Reporting System). This video is perfect for anyone who wants to cross the Atlantic Ocean, on a Boeing 747!
ACARS is a system that airlines use to communicate with air Traffic Control. By using ACARS, you can request and receive oceanic crossing clearance, without ever having to speak to air traffic control in person. This video will show you how to use ACARS to get clearance to cross the Atlantic Ocean, on a Boeing 747!

By viewing this video, you can really see how a Boeing 747 is requesting and receiving an oceanic crossing clearance from an air traffic controller. the ACARS is an aviation, ACARS an acronym for Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System) is a digital datalink system for transmission of short messages between aircraft and ground stations via airband radio or satellite. The protocol was designed by ARINC and deployed in 1978,[1] using the Telex format. More ACARS radio stations were added subsequently by SITA.

Nice video of how pilots communicate using ACARS to receive clearance for crossing the Atlantic Ocean. I didn’t understand all the choices and inputs, but I understood “clearance confirmed, end of message.” Still love the handy little printer. You pilots have a lot to do flying your magnificent ocean liners of the sky. As always, fly safe, stay safe. ❤️U😎 ‎שולח אווירה טובה, אהבה, חיבוקים ונשיקות לטייס הטוב ביותר אי פעם מהמעריץ מספר אחת שלו.

Very interesting seeing how this is done. Nice video of you showing there's more to being a pilot than take off and landing. Very nicely done. 👌

Is this how you report at each waypoint along your assigned track as well?

Very informative. I was surprised to see FL41. Isn’t that higher than usual for a 747? On one of my last 747 flights (LY EWR- TLV), we stayed at FL29 until fuel was burned off, around Labrador coast.

Cruising at FL410? The Queen must be empty or very lightly loaded.

So it is like SMS service between flight & ATC . Display Screen makes it feel like pre 80s stuff .

Can you cross the north Atlantic without any voice communication between Gander or Shanwick Radio? Can you fly from JFK to LGG but only use CPDLC?

You only sent your clearance 3 minutes before your entry point? Isn't it supposed to be like 30 minutes or so?

It would be in your flight plan WAY before that and probably standard for such a flight. This flight was military, probably US.
