I did 3 decades as a firefighter in Holyoke MA. That day was and still is one of my proudest days as a firefighter. BTW, I was not there but approximately 175 miles north of the city. Still, this rescue made me and every firefighter on planet earth…. So very proud. God Bless them all

Kevin Shea is and was one of the greatest firemen the FDNY ever had. 2 years later Kevin was badly injured during the world trade center bombing in 1993. While searching for victims Kevin fell between 40 to 50 ft into a crater and was badly injured. This very same rope rescue was done to remove Kevin from the building. Although injured, Kevin was lucky to be alive, but this would be the end of a storied career from "the greatest job on earth".

It’s been 30 years since this happened. My parents grew up in New York, but it was in Long Island. The fire was frightening. Pat, Kevin, and Bruce did a really good job. Ray did a good job, too. Jose and Peter thanked them for saving their lives. They were in the right place at the right time. This happened on a Tuesday. I was living in Arizona at the time.

Yes in 2000 he was promoted to captain when Terry Hatton was promoted to captain as well, Terry Hatton took over Paddy Brown’s rescue company aka Rescue 1 and Paddy Brown went to Ladder 3 Terry Hatton was like a computer because it was like he had a computer chip in him because he loved Manhattan and knew it so well that he knew where he was going and knew all streets in the borough of Manhattan and he read the wall street journal all the time to see what the stock updates were in the paper, he also died on 9/11 and much of his men and Paddy Brown’s former colleagues from Rescue 1 died except for Joel Kanasky Paul HasHagen Todd Smith Anthony Tedesco John Weisheit Alfred Benjamin and a few others the ones that died were Terry Hatton Dennis Mojica Gerry Nevins Dave Weiss Joe Angelini Sr Bill Henry Brian Sweeney Michael Montessi John Moran and Paddy O’Keefe from Rescue 1 Joe Angelini Jr from Ladder 4 also died that day while on the job and others of the 343 firefighters from the FDNY killed on 9/11

I was good friends with him when I was an intern firefighter for the FDNY and so on 9/11 I didn’t realize he was killed but I was so sure he was not gonna make it down the stairwell to the ground, once the towers were on the ground we realized he was caught in the collapse of tower 1, and we were uncertain if he was buried alive underneath the pile or if he was dead. We found his body on November 30th 2001 and the condition he was in was unbelievable so we had to prepare to make funeral arrangements for his dead body and celebrate his life, we never got to see Paddy again

Yesterday was the 33rd anniversary of when this happened. At the time this happened, I was 8 2 months shy of my 9th birthday in 2nd grade and my brother Andrew was 6 1/2 turning 7 in kindergarten and we were living in Fountain Hills, Arizona. If this happened in the morning, Andrew and I were at school. We both attended McDowell Mountain Elementary School. This happened 13 days before Memorial Day.

Why was this being filmed (from the roof I mean, I know the footage across the street is from someone who grabbed a camera)? Was it just fortuitous? Is it a reenactment? Did this company have a camera person assigned?
