100VA transformer..... hope that heater is pretty small. Same size fuses on primary and secondary of transformer too..... Not to mention, 2A on 440 is 880VA. No wonder it melted. But maybe for life / safety it's better to overload the TX than have a fuse blow. Good diagnosis and fix as always. Too many would just throw in a new transformer and not question why.

I have experienced technicians trying to fix stuff by replacing immediately. Some intermittent issues even gave them some temporary sense of victory. I bet with that connection in the junction box, if the box wasn't watertight you could sniff your way to the fault. Somehow that picture makes me smell burnt electrical stuff in my mind...

8 times rated power isn't too insane considering that transformers have quite large in-rush currents, especially tiny ones like that, through a slower 1A fuse would probably have been better.
@inothome3 жыл бұрын
@@sstorholm 8X is a little high and for inrush or surge you can use time delay fuses. But, sure there was a reason they used the fuses they did, or I hope so anyway.

It is a bit odd that the fuses did not blow but the transformer did. And the outside junction box looked totally burned up, was the motor burned up too? We didn’t get to see that.
@leckyjake3 жыл бұрын
Transformer got burnt because of the earth fault.

How often do you have to work live? Considering its an active vessel, im sure all systems dont have 24hr redundancy
