That previous family really kept him in torturous conditions. It’s as if people don’t even realise that parrots are sentient and emotionally intelligent beings who deserve love and care, but think that they’re just some decoration you can put in the attic or basement for a decade without sunlight when you get bored of them. My heart aches for all the poor birds who are suffering alone right now, unable to escape and just screaming their anguish out for help that never comes, and getting punished when they “are loud” when they desperately try to cry out for someone to rescue them. They deserve so much better, and there are so few laws protecting them. Thank you, Ya Zhi, for adopting Cookie and giving him the life he deserves. You’ve really made a difference for someone who couldn’t advocate for themselves, and you have given him the gift of love. Also, thank you for spreading awareness. You are great ❤️

JakulaithWolff I waited 7 years for one of my adopted parrots to finally come out of his shell. I’ve had him 13 years now and he has freedom to go wherever in my house and play as much as he wants. He is currently under my bed with a hanger. 😂

They can also realize if they are not what is best for an animal. Its better to give an animal a better home if you know you cannot provide for them. Like Sylvester Stallone, he sold his dog as he was dead broke only to buy it back after getting the role of Rocky for several times as much as he had sold the dog for. It only makes sense to give them a better life when situations may lead to you not being able to provide or support them properly.

I learned with my very first ferret at the age of 20 that as an owner, you can't give up. Ferrets, at least for me, are really skiddish at first and it takes about a month or so before they stop biting so hard they draw blood sometimes :( both my ferrets were little stinkers in the beginning and it was difficult, but one day you just can see it. It clicks and you know, they're family now. god I want a birb someday

My goffins ended up plucking when she got mites one time :/ she was getting taken care of by our neighbors while we were away at school and they didn't tell us she was plucking at all. My mom went over one day to visit and saw our goffins chest was completely bare, it was a huge shock. We took her back right away but the plucking habit stayed.

You've done a amazing job with him...totally transformed him into what he was meant to be...a beautiful, happy parrot with a huge personality that never got to shine before!!! Birds are very loyal. Only snip 1 wing just a little. Then you can start outdoors with them. Eventually you wont need to snip them at all, they wont go far from family.

Im so glad to see that Cookie got a second chance at life, and that he's happy now! I don't think that very many people realize what a lifetime commitment, caring for a bird can be, when they first take them on as pets. Bird Rescues are filled to capacity because of this err in judgment on the part of these pet owners. It's incredibly sad. Thank God for people like Ya Zhi, who are willing to put in the time and the effort to ensure that these captive birds have a stimulating and happy life, filled with the love and companionship that they need!

What a BEAUTIFUL little man!! It makes me so happy to know that this gorgeous thing was able to find a stable and loving home and find himself again. Safety, loving relationship(s) and emotional support are the key to trauma-based care, and even if Ya Zhi didn't consciously know it, she gave (and still gives) Cookie everything he needs to flourish at his own pace. Wonderful example of the effects of trauma on an individual, even if they're not human.

In Sydney Australia we have thousands of them. Beautiful creatures. They will come and sit on your balcony and pretty much do all that Dodo will do - and these are wild birds. Once 40 of them sat on our balcony and my wife walked down the line and handed each one a cookie. Each one waited patiently till it was his turn.

Coming from the owner of one, both names are technically correct: Tanimbar Corella or Goffin's Cockatoo. I'm from the US, where they are typically called Goffin's cockatoos, but whichever name you prefer, they are an amazing and entertaining species- my very favorite parrot! XOXO

I smiled during watching. You are fantastic girl, really you are!! Now you know why birds and other animals should not be kept in a cage!!! Give them the same space, care, love and understanding as you yourself would like to have, be treated, when you like to keep an animal as your pet animal....an animal deserves the same quality of live as humans!! I love my little chickens....started with 5...now 3 have died over the years of natural causes....one of the 2 left is a very cuddly chicken....I can pick her up and walk around in the house and around my little garden.....both still produce an egg so now and then, but I don't care if they did not....I love them...I care about them. So I really can understand this girl about her love, dedication and care for her amazing cockatoo. Wonderful!!
