I remember when this first premiered on TV back in October of 1978. I worked at a gas station at the time. I didn't have a video recorder at the time, as well as most people back then. There was only one solution to that problem, I called off sick from work so I could watch it.

:) Yes I remember watching this as a kid when it aired the first time too. Kids today have no idea what it was like then.... you would have a TV guide and wait weeks.... and then you had to be there for the show or that was it. It could be a year before it showed again, or never for all you knew. It was a really big deal to see them finally rescued!

@@sreed8909 Cheers to you Miss Sabrina. The 80's decade/genre was way more authentic and original. You could hear, feel, see the human condition. Now with the saturation of the internet and social media, the human condition has diminished. Television shows and actors/actresses are determined by "likes" and "followers"! Really talented actors/actresses are now being replaced by "social media influencers", "cgi/animation" and my all time favorite: "Artificial intelligence". The 1980's had amazing culture, diversity, fashion, movies, network television shows and programs! The pop, rock, yacht rock, slow jams, country, jazz/smooth jazz music was totally awesome! My apologies for the long/scribed diatribe of a reply to your comment. Just the 1980's was awesome!

Yes it was a awesome time to live. I was watching the reruns of Gilligan’s Island as a kid in the 70’s. Tv shows in general were 100 times better in the 70’s and 80’s. Atleast in my part of the US anyway. I finally got the DvD’s of the castaways about 10 years ago I think it was. I am missing a few of the movies though. I was upset that Ginger was replaced with that other girl. Tina really messed up the movies being as selfish as she was. Just really ain’t the same. My all time crush was on Dawn Wells. I was very sad when she passed away in 2020. She was the country bumpkin I dreamed of. Lol

I'm 58 years young now and would do it all over again with all of my favorite shows. Shows like "Happy Days" (The Fonz), "The Munsters and the Adam's Family", "Bewitched" (one of my favorites), and let's not forget our Dream Girl "I Dream of Genie." Good old wholesome comedy! Lets not forget the "Three Stooges", The Little Rascals", "Abbot and Costello", etc. Thanks you very much "Classic Comedy Channel" for the trip back in time. But before MeTv came on I didn't know when I'd ever see Gilligans Island again so I bought the complete series on box set that has the pilot of Gilligans Island MaryAnn was a blonde and a completely different actress,...I think Tina Louise was playing Ginger but she wasn't playing a movie star The music was completely different also I think it was a Spanish tune It's really nice to have alot of these old shows back. You know during the time when we were younger especially those of us that are now in our mid 50s to 60s, we loved the show then, but it was finally time for it to end because like the character of J.J. Evans on Goodtimes. People had grown bored and tired of the antics of Gilligan. I guess we were maturing past the character.

Did anyone else notice then how Dawn Wells hardly changed at all. Even today, the last photo I saw of her, she looked pretty good. It was sad however that Tina Louise didn't want to continue her role as Ginger. I thought she was lovely in the role & the show is still running somewhere in the world. Her & Dawn are the only 2 left now from this great show. If only the first season on DVD had been colourised as it looked better in colour.

I watched reruns of _Gilligan’s Island_ all thru my childhood in the early 70s when I was around 6-9 years old. When this premiered in ‘78 I was 13 and, well, let’s just say that the show’s humor suddenly seemed a whole lot goofier than I remembered! And the lack of a laugh track didn’t help. But I still watched it. This TV movie garnered huge ratings in 1978! It was kind of a perfect storm. The show had a legion of new fans like me, Gen-Xers, who grew up on it in reruns, and older baby boomers who watched it in first run. And, most importantly, unlike other high-concept sitcoms of the 60s, this show had an important recurring theme, namely them always needing to be rescued. So it made perfect sense for everybody to believe that they had remained marooned all the time it was off the air! So it was totally awesome to see them *FINALLY* get rescued!!

Ah, the days of innocence. I used to love this show when I was a kid in the 70s. Life was very different then and innocent shows like Gilligan's Island reflect this. If we had a 2019 production it would go like this; Ginger and Marie-anne would be in competition for the same man - which man would depend on the story line that week - and he would be secretly gay. Failing to capture his attention the two ladies would fall into a lesbian relationship. Oh, did I forget to mention; one of the castaways would be in a wheelchair. One of the castaways would be blind. One would be black, another Chinese. One of them is gay. Naturally the blind person would be a wonderful musician as are all blind folk. The professor would be a wonderful candidate for the wheelchair. Everyone in a wheelchair has a degree in physics and engineering. Gilligan would be engaged in constructing a vibrator for Ginger using seashells and coconuts. The professor is making the batteries. This is done on the quiet because although she is openly bisexual she couldn't have it get out that she owns a vibrator. Rather than taking an interest in survival the castaways are obsessed with sex. No one falls pregnant or gets an STD. Okay, you know how the rest of the story goes . . . You can probably gather that I think TV today is obsessed with sex to the point of taking the enjoyment out of viewing. Give this a 'like' if you also think TV is too focused on sex.
