i fell in the deep end of the pool when i was 3 and sank right to the bottom, being a toddler i didn't know to hold my breath or swim for the surface. a lifeguard dove in immediately and pulled me out, and i was fine. thank you lifeguards for risking your lives for all of us who adore the ocean and all bodies of water. you're true heroes

I cant really tell from the angle but It looked they had the right idea swimming away (right) of the current.
@emigenetics21287 жыл бұрын
I asked the same... WHAT the fuck is up here with this rip?
@aharmer17 жыл бұрын
It is probably just an issue with my angle, and the irregularities in the coastline. The rip current is more or less perpendicular to shore.

That’s what I thought, they was swimming side ways was they not?

Rip currents can be angular (not always perpendicular to the shore), and to me it looked like it was an angular current that they were fighting head on.

Rip currents can be very deceptive. And pull You beyond the breaking waves where most certainly the water is well over your head. Depends on how strong the rip and how wide. Eventually it will release you and sometimes bring you back too shore. However panick happens too most everyone and you get so tired that when you will drown. Also never ever go into the water without a lifeguard. 95 percent of all drawings. Happen after guards off duty.

****PERSONAL RIP-CURRENT STORY**** EVERYONE MUST LEARN HOW TO SPOT AND ESCAPE A CURRENT!!! These things are really no joke. No matter how good of a swimmer you are, these currents are SO fucking tiring that you will literally start to "Go Down" because of how exhausted you get by purely treading water. My & I girlfriend went snorkeling in Hawaii, And no joke after 4 or 6 minutes in the water. We noticed we weren't going anywhere and luckily we knew how to escape a rip current but if we were out there for 3-5 minutes longer without realizing what the situation was. In 100% honestly, We probably would have drowned that day. You cant describe Knowing that the fate of your life is going to be determined in a 10-minute period .

today I surfed jockos for about four hours. my arms got so tired paddling in my legs started to shake and i had to work hard to get back in. long easy strokes with no breaks until i'm on the beach. chuns had like fifty people and jockos four. maybe the current keeps the crowd down. I always keep an eye on other people paddling in the make sure they make it. I am also a lifeguard

I random guy was on his surf board relaxing and seen me struggling ... he saved me and brought me back to the beach... I don't swim in the ocean anymore:( I have a fear of water and I'm 30

Sorry meant to say rips here. In fact I was at the beach with friends and didn't realize how far we had been carried out. I didn't panic but it felt like I couldn't move my arms and the waves were starting to build. I flipped over on my back a minute but I swallowed water. Luckily one of my friends is a great swimmer and towed me in a bit so I could get my breath and just swim parallel to the shore until I could reach shore. No lifeguards at this particular beach which is nice and sandy and lots of sand bars. Reminded myself I hadn't been swimming in a couple of years and to take it easy. We were so far out the people on the shore looked like pinheads!

Swim parallel to the shore to get out of a rip. Don't try to fight the current. You will only wear yourself out and probably drown if no one spots you. I live on the East coast of Canada and we get some good tips here.

I don't understand.... they were both swimming parallel to shore??? Or to waves? Why didn't that get them out of the rip?
@poconofriend7777 жыл бұрын
I'm confused on the direction they were swimming. It looks like they were swimming parallel. They probably were swimming into the current (the ocean always has a left or right current) which pulled them back into the rip. You gotta swim with the ocean's current parallel to the shore until you're out of the rip.
@aharmer17 жыл бұрын
They were swimming perpendicular to shore. It was a pretty classic rip and not very wide but very swift.
@alanwayne76436 жыл бұрын
That foam line is the top part of the rip current. It looked like it was going diagonally down the beach and they were trying to get above it. However, they were still close so it likely slowed them down.

Baffles the f out of me! I’ve been on a million beaches and seen crazy waves, but if I’m standing and can feel sand at the bottom of my feet ther is no way you can just pull me out just like that. I don’t get this rip tide shit. Googled it now coz I’ve never heard of it in my life mate. But I’m British so ther you go.lol

Well that’s exactly what you have to to when you are in a rip current , relax and don’t get in panic cause that’s what it kills you they know how to swim , and they knew what was going on and what to do in that situation if you paid attention to the video you can see the guy turned around to float on his back to get more breath ,lifeguard just helped them to get out of the danger zone faster I’m sure they were going to make it but not that easy without being helped

Pls can u explain how a person standing in knee level water cld b pulled in rip current? Feb 4 pretty beach canberra 39yrs old brother drowned.was just stsnding there 1 minute next minute he was drahged in.his friend informed the police.
@djtrumpet11555 жыл бұрын
Urvashi Patel First, I hate to hear about your brother. Second, rip currents from the shoreline to beyond breaking waves. They can move rapidly, at about 2 feet per second. The fastest ones have had a history of moving at 8 feet per second. Though that is extreme, that is faster than an Olympic swimmer. The best advice is to begin by heeding all flag conditions. Google the beach flag warning system for more in depth information. Every time you enter the water, look at breaking waves. If there is a flatter, non white part of a breaking wave looking calm, that’s a rip current. If it is a bit of a different color, it’s a rip current.

Why don’t they just read the safety manual?!

This type of shit always baffles me. The water around you is darker, colder, and is harder to swim against. How can they not tell they are in a rip current? Sideways isn't always the best way to get out of a rip current if the rip current is also going sideways. All they needed to do was to let the rip current take them out and then swim sideways.
@olivierb97165 жыл бұрын
alway easy when you are on beach. when you are on water, you don't see where you can escape
@clarkewi7 жыл бұрын
They just had a little farther to go and they would have been where the waves were breaking (where the white water is). The current would have been flowing towards shore and they could have gotten in.

@djtrumpet11555 жыл бұрын
They may not have intentionally gone out that far. Rip currents extend from the shoreline to beyond breaking waves, which can be about 100 yards out. They can pull you at a speed of around 2 feet per second. Even if you are just knee deep.
