I have a cat who, unlike this poor baby, was not taken from his mother too young. He was with her and several of his litter mates until he was about 7 months old, and the mother weaned them all naturally, meaning that the food was made available starting at 3-4 weeks, but the mother cat was the one who controlled when she started pushing her babies away, and some pf them were fully weaned within a week while others in the litter continued to occcassionally "comfort suckle" for weeks or even a couple months after there was any biological need to nurse. Anyway, this particular cat is a super-sweet, loving cat who is very physically demonstrative of affection (very gentle love bites on noses, ears and chin, head butts, grooming our hands and hair, even will reach his muzzle up to get kisses, and so on...). We got him around the time he wss 7.5 months old, by which point he was fully weaned and almost out of his "kitten" time. Around 2 months after we got him, one night he was cudled up with me wifh his cheek pressed against mine, when suddenly he started to attempt to suckle on my face! I mean reeally suckle. Even doing "biscuits" with his paws against my face and neck, and doing soft purrs. He is now almkst 5, and he still does this almost every night, when he is being cuddled in our bed and we are just about to shut kff the lights and get some sleep. We thought at first it was a anxiety out nutritional, but as it turns out this was just a particular way he had adopted to show he feels extra love, and it is only done at beftime, which must mean that it is a time when he feels particularly content and protected-probably feelings similar to what he experienced as a baby when he was laying against the warmth of his mother and was getting comfortably drowsy as he filled his belly with warm milk. He isnt aggressive or desperate about it, and can easily be told "no" or moved away or redirected. But it has become a night time ritual thst is very special to both of us.

@@jenme7926 Aww thank you. And thank you for reading all that. I wish I knew more about KZbin and tech and such. I think people would really enjoy watching this cat. He is quite "special". He has an approach to every person and thing he encounters that just says "I love you and I know that you cannot wait to give me love!". I have a son who has Autism (among other diagnoses). He is much better than he used to be, but he is prone to very loud and sometimes violent melt-downs. Even full-grown adults can be scared off by the severity of the behavior unless they are trained about how to go about calming him while protecting themselves and him from injury. Yet, no matter where he is in the house or what he is doing, when this tiny 7.5 lb cat hears my son scream or cry or start going into a melt down, he goes RACING to find my son and check on him. The crazy sweet cat goes right in, dodging arms and legs, so he can get right to my son's face and start licking his face and hair and rubbing its body against my son's cheek. This poor little cat often winds up pushed or flung away (not purposely-it just is my son flailing around out of control) , and it doesn't even pause. It just looks at my son like "oh, you must not have realized that you were supposed to pet me because you love me, don't worry, I'll show you!", and then, without the tiniest bit of resentment or fear, the crazy cat goes right back up to my son's face to start kissing it again. I've seen this happen 4-5 times in a row, where I actually remove the cat because I don't want it hurt, but the cat will have none of it. He keeps insisting on going back to "help" my son who is almost 10 times the cat's weight. The amazing thing is that it may take 5-10 minutes of the cat trying, but ultimately he is always successful. Eventually my son can't resist the insistent and innocent display of love and will hug the cat and cry into its fur and calm down. I really do believe that all animals have the capacity to love more strongly and more deeply than any human. But there are some, like this little cat, who are just such an embodiment if pure love and loyalty, that it is impossible not to love them back.

God bless you for the rescuing you do. God bless all rescuers! Archie is precious and so sweet! My cat, Thumper, was taken from his mom before 5 weeks (I got him at 5 weeks). He was purchased at a pet store and gifted to a friend who gave him to me because she couldn't keep him. I had lost my 17 year old tuxie 8 months previously. Baby Thumper immediately climbed onto my shoulder and started suckling on my earlobe several times a day. I didn't discourage him as he was self-soothing. I started to wean him once he was mature, and he started sucking his paw, frequently. He did keep on suckling my earlobe once in a while until he was about 2 years old. I have to admit, though it was goopy, I didn't mind at all. Had him for 19 years. Miss him terribly. He was such an angel. 💔😢

I do feel bad for kittens that for whatever reason werent able to be raised by their mother the first months of their lives, cus those first months are really important and the mother cat teaches her kittens basically how to cat lol, so big props to all those cats out there that werent able to be raised by their cat moms but still grew up in this crazy cartoon world

Oh my gosh! My Covid kitten did this! I kept him in my room with the door closed so the other cats could get used to him and he would creep up on me during the night and latch on to my neck or face! It was terrifying at first! Now, he just licks!!
