The Cold Storage Fire that Tommy talks about in this scene is the Worcester Cold Storage Fire that happened in 1999 in Worcester MA. 6 men from the Worcester FD died that night...one of them was Denis Leary's cousin...Jerry Lucey.

I think Tommy felt that suicide was cowardly but Sean didn’t fully understand why someone would do that and was essentially calling Jerry a straight up coward in general. Even though Tommy felt suicide was cowardly he knew Jerry was anything but a coward and it pissed him off that anyone on the crew would think of Jerry as such
@jdmifsud1412 жыл бұрын
its interesting how a lot of what goes on in the show actually happened to the actual actors. Tommy's Dad: that actor was a soldier in the US Army with the 3rd Army. The Actor who portrays Jerry: he was a fire fighter with the FDNY in the late 70s.

Charles Durning was Tommy's dad. And not only was he with the 3rd Army, under Patton, no less, but he was also in D-Day.

When I was growing up with my dad in firehouses, they weren’t called jobs, they’re called calls. A job is a burden, they’re called to help.

“Man Alive: The Bronx is Burning” is an incredible documentary from the early 70s that follows Engine 82 as they do what Tommy talks about here. He’s not exaggerating when he says they’d catch over 10 jobs a shift.

they don't make ensemble dramas like this anymore. Closest might be "The Bear" right now. Denis Leary is v. full of himself and this show was flawed/a little goofy...but man, I loved this cast. John Scurti really did deserve a supporting actor Emmy too.
@listrahtes2 жыл бұрын
yeah sadly Learys ego not only brought quality to the show but was also its downfall . He was the one kicking "Jerry" of the show for envy and made more and more about his character and just overloaded him with drama to the point it just got dumb and stupid.
