My god... in a cage since 1999...I've been through so much during that time including watching both parents die, husband walking out, raising a child as a single parent who's nearly 20 now and we've had our struggles and bouts of feeling lonely and marginalized, but to think that poor bear was isolated in that cage all that time is astounding and heartbreaking for me, as well as humbling, knowing how it suffered. Someone somewhere always has it worse.

The owner told us he hadn't extracted bile from QQ, we won't know for sure until we do a health check at sanctuary.

Did the owner express any remorse for how he had farmed the bear? Did he realise it wasn’t a very happy life or did he not appreciate the cruelty until it was pointed out to him? He must have had a big change of heart about what is truly best for her…? Well done ❤🌹

Great questions, he certainly wasn't intentionally hurting QQ, he genuinely cared about her wellbeing and perhaps didn't appreciate that her being in a cage was actually hurting her. Certainly QQ is in great condition which suggests she has been given a good diet and water. The owner wants to visit her at our sanctuary and we think that then he will see that bears shouldn't be in cages and hopefully he will tell other bear owners to relinquish their bears too.

Amazing work. Hard to imagine how the owners think they are looking after "their" bears well. I suppose they don't know any different if that's what they have been brought up to do, but the entitlement to steal a wild animal and keep it caged and use it for their own benefit is hard to overlook. Getting that owner onside as an advocate to help persuade other farmers to give up their bears would be an amazing tool for you guys to help continue your work...Hopefully he can educate other bear keepers.... Thanks Nathan, that is absolutely spot on. We have to work collaboratively with the farmers to persuade them to hand their bears over to us - as keeping bears is not illegal in Vietnam. As you rightly say, when they have a good experience with us they will hopefully tell their friends and they too will relinquish their bears.

He got upset with his bear being rescued. You call keeping a bear in a cage for 25 years love? He feels sorry to see his bear go as he ‘loves’ it, I’m sure the bear won’t be sad leaving him! Keeping a bear in a cage for 25 years isn’t love and neither does it show kindness in any way, shape or form. If anything it shows cruelty! Thank God QQ is out of a life of misery with a so called owner who loved him but caged him for 25 years! If I caged him for 25 years and said I love him would he believe that?
