Uno spent 18 years on a bile farm... this is the moment he felt the sun for the first time ever

Two years ago Animals Asia rushed to rescue Uno, a male moon bear who had spent his entire life - 18 years - trapped in a tiny, rusty cage in a dark room.
The reason? For his bile to be extracted and sold for traditional medicine.
Today we're celebrating Uno's two-year rescue anniversary by re-sharing the touching moment he felt the warmth of the sun on his face for the very first time.

Great question. Every bear, just like us, is different and responds in their own way but yes they are traumatised mentally and physically. Rescuing them is just the beginning, then we start the long, patient and creative process of healing them and doing all we can to make them as comfortable, happy and feel as safe as possible. Our bear care team does an amazing job of helping the bears move forward from their years - often decades - of trauma.

@@lynnski7639 That's right, it's called zoonosis when caged animals display repetitive actions such as head swaying or pacing. This reduces dramatically once they're rescued, sometimes completely, sometimes less so, but we try our absolute best to make the bears know they're safe and will never be caged ever again.
